PARSONS WINS MINI SPRINT MIGHTY MOUSE MAGIC
The Victorian Mini Sprints recently headed to Drouin Speedway for the second & annual Mighty
Mouse Magic in honour of Colin Lindell who was known as the driver of the Mighty Mouse car back
in his day, it would be local Warragul race driver Matt Parsons who would come away with victory.
Three heat races set up the feature field with Victorian Champion David May (# 4 Tritech Lubricants -
GSXR 1000) winning heat one after chasing down Kevin Bomford who led seven of eight laps, passing
him on the very last to take the win. Earlier in the race Parsons passed May on lap six only for May to
come right back the next lap & go on to win in a closely fought battle Bomford & Parsons. May,
Bomford, Parsons, Jason Lynn, Luke Hickson & Kyle Stathopoulos (# 99 Kercar Transport - R1
Yamaha).
From out of position two, Parsons (# 73 Custom Haulers - Yamaha R1) led from the start in heat two
out racing Hickson to turn one. Bomford from fifth on the grid moved to third on lap one with
Parsons continued to lead Hickson. Parsons took the win from rookie Hickson who was a fantastic
second place finisher with Bomford, May, Lynn (# 24 Unsponsored - Yamaha R1) & Stathopoulos
rounding out the result.
Starting from pole position in the final heat May jumped to a lead in front of Bomford (# 32 Elite
Metals - Yamaha R1). Lynn was strong in third from lap one to three until Parsons passed him on lap
four. May the winner from Bomford, Parsons, Lynn, Hickson & Stathopoulos.
The twelve lap final field lined up with May, Parsons, Bomford, Hickson (# 21 Alfred Lewis
Engineering - Yamaha R1), Lynn & Stathopoulos greeting the starter. Bomford pulled out before the
final could get started with ignition issues.
On the first attempt to get the race under way, Dave May spun, resulting in him re-joining at the
back of the field. Disappointed with himself, he gassed it hard on the re-start and quickly rounded up
the field to move into second behind Parsons.
Parsons, only a hop, skip & a jump away from home, in front of family & friends went on to win his
first Mighty Mouse Magic ahead of May, Hickson, Lynn & Stathopoulos.

MAY ROCKETS AROUND REDLINE
By Dean Thompson (For Victorian Mini Sprints)
The Victorian Mini Sprints 2014/15 Gold Cup series continued with the latest round at Ballarat’s
Redline Raceway held on Sunday the 8th of March & in a barnstorming display, Victorian Champion
Dave May romped to victory ahead of Kevin Bomford & Matt Parsons in a super quick display by all
competitors.
Three heat races determined starting positions for the feature event, in a display of how close the
top runners are in the division there were three different heat winners with eventually podium
finishers Parsons, then Bomford & May (# 4 Tritech Lubricants/ Noske Transport – GSXR 1000 Suzuki)
winning races.
Parsons started the night well defeating May who had to come from the back of the field to pass
Bomford, Jason Lynn, Darren Schnoor (# 6 Browns Stockfeeds – R1 Yamaha), Luke Hickson & Kyle
Stathopoulos in the first heat race.
Bomford (# 32 Elite Metals– R1 Yamaha) then proved to strong for May in the second heat with a
strong display from Hickson who continues development showing he is on his way to the front of the
pack. Lynn (# 24 Sponsor wanted – R1 Yamaha) & Schnoor completed the field whilst Parsons didn’t
finish with a broken throttle spring & Stathopoulos ended up on his side after bouncing off the wall
& then clipping the pole line wind row gently.
May’s first victory had to wait until the third heat when he defeated Schnoor & Hickson (# 21v Alfred
Engineering– R1 Yamaha) with Parsons & Bomford finding the others too hard to catch. Lynn &
Stathopoulos rounded out the field.
The feature race may not have been close in the way of finishes, however each & every driver was
wickedly fast with May, Bomford, Parsons (# 73 Jettco – Yamaha R1), Hickson & Lynn rounding
out the result. Schnoor was disappointed to be a non finisher with a broken torsion arm as was
Stathopoulos (# 99 Kercar Transport – R1 Yamaha).

Dynamo Dave May seems to make a habit of coming into a class and waltzing off with the class Championship and that trend continued last night (February 7th) at Gippsland’s Nyora Raceway when May won his first Victorian Mini Sprint championship just a week out from the National Title.
“After what happened at the (Geoff Moule) Memorial event, we checked and rechecked the weight of the car empty of fuel to make sure that if we won we wouldn’t be disqualified for being too light this time,” stated May on the dais. “At one stage after a heat we checked it again and it said we were different than what we knew the car to be so I thought their scales must be wrong and then after the feature we were okay so that was a good feeling.”
May is now buoyed heading into the National Championship event next week having experimented with a couple of set-up variations that proved fruitful on his Tritech Lubricants/Allstate Custom Trailers #4.
Matt Parson’s, who cherishes his Moule Memorial Victory, was disappointed not to have been able to mount more of a sustained challenge against May in the main event. Parsons suffered a recurrence of a chain issue on his Warragul Party Hire/Jettco #73 first experienced in a heat race, which unfortunately curtailed his pursuit after he’d surged through the pack and was wringing the cars neck as he chased down the leader. Parson’s however will accept his runner up position and look forward to next year’s campaign.
“I need to thank my brother Dean and all the crew and helpers who do all the work on the car and Stephen Bell who spent time during the week tuning up our car,” Parsons said somewhat dejectedly. “The car was really good until we had that issue again with the chain.”
Completing the podium was Jason Andreatta who showed a great turn of speed early on in his green Head Shed #37 even taking an exciting heat win along the way.
“It’s great to be back in the car after four years out of the seat, so I’m really happy with this result,” Said Andreatta in a massive understatement.
Just missing a podium finish was Darren Schnoor (Browns Stockfeeds #6) and Kevin Bomford (Elite Metals/Berley Pro #32) with Jason Lynn and rookie Kyle Stathopolous (Kencar Transport #99) completing the finishers.
Earlier in the night Owen Bulmans title tilt went no further than hot laps in his Hobson Designs/Stickerette #7 with engine failure.
Luke Hickson also experienced a frustrating night in the Alfred Engineering #21 with fuel injection and filter issues and fellow rookie Will Van Der Ark showed some great pace in his #72 but was caught out by a couple of minor issues.
Heat wins went to Parsons, Andreatta and May.
The Victorian Mini Sprint Association and the Victorian Speedway Council wish to congratulate all competitors for a great night of racing and wish all competitors the best of luck for the upcoming National Championship which dominator Dave May is keen to bring home to the Garden State.
