A PLEASANT SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT DROUIN SPEEDWAY Image by Craig Mitchell of CBM Photography
Where else would a male motorsport enthusiast take his girl on Valentine’s day than the Speedway,
which was the case for diehards on this February the 14th when Drouin Speedway entertained
happy couples and families looking for their weekly dose of racing.
The fields were not enormous by any means and racing was started just after eleven in the morning
and finish just after three in the afternoon.
Hans Lovski became a first time feature race winner when he took the honours in the Open Sedan
division ahead of Pakenham racer Darren Skilton & Andrew Suckling.
The national Junior Sedan division were supposed to be having a major feature race, however with
all the major Junior Sedan competitors from this side of Melbourne off in Mount Gambier for the
South Australian title the night before, interest was very little to get back to Drouin the next day.
Pakenham driver Jack Ramsdale was able to lead Darcy Wilson & Chloe Sheerman to the finish in the
Junior Sedans with all three youngsters delighted to pick up trophies for their efforts.
First across the line in the Standard Saloon division would be Leigh Gooding from Yallourn ahead of
Mitch Blencowe, Chris Charles, Jake Blencowe & Mitchell Bowyer & in the Ladies Standard Saloons
Shannon Lovell was too good for Elena Bodman.
Ace of Spades vintage speedway sedans entertained also in their demonstration runs with many of
the cars based back on the 34’ model Fords.
Drouin returns on March the 20th with SDAV Hot Rods, Boost to Drive Junior Standard Saloon series
round, Vintage Super Modifieds and club classes.

MILES, MAY, ALBERNI, MORGAN & BIG JACK WIN AT DROUIN
Drouin Speedway competitors had their final competition at the venue for 2015 on Sunday the 13th
of December with two of the usual winners doing so again whilst others achieved first wins or a
return to victory lane with Mark Miles (Standard Saloons), Dave May (Mini Sprints), Wayne Alberni
(Open Sedans), Bridgette Morgan (Ladies Standards) & Jack Yeomans (Junior Standards) winning the
finals.
The visiting Mini Sprints were competing in a Gold Cup series round & Dave May was expected to
stand out in a small field & that he did. May won all three heats even spinning in one whilst leading
requiring him to come from last to first at a restart. A 16.35 second lap time on a surface affected by
the sun was outstanding considering the record is 15.89 that's lasted about four seasons. May then
won the final from Jason Lynn, Andrew Burleigh & Kyle Stathopoulos.
Junior Standard Saloons were racing for the Boost 2 Drive series points & Gemma Laidlaw with two
for Matt Bowers. The final unfortunately involved a crash between Laidlaw & Yeomans with Laidlaw
unable to finish with Bowers after the restart then spinning allowing Yeomans to the front where he
defeated Bowers & rookie Rhys Lansdown.
Victoria # 2 driver Mark Miles then took a win in the Standard Saloons after a great race with Leigh
Gooding. Gooding due to competing in a trial car is unable to take official placings & as a result
second was awarded to Rob Bushell, third Scott Angus ahead of Mitch Blencowe & Andrew Morris.
Jeff Blencowe, Bushell, Miles & Gooding won heat races.
In Open Sedans Wayne Alberni picked up a win in his return to victory lane when he was too strong
for Eric Miles & Hans Lovski. Earlier Miles then Alberni with two won the heats. In Ladies Standards
Shannon Lovell won two of the three heats with Bridgette Morgan the other before Lovell in the
final trying to chase down Morgan crashed heavily & out of the race leaving Morgan a clean path to
victory.
The Drouin Speedway Club returns to action on January the 17th with an Open Sedan feature the
major draw card.
