Leeds loanee not enjoying new club since his move few weeks ago

30/09/2023, England, Multi Sports, English Sports Publications, Article # 31447225

Although Leeds are in sixth place in the Championship table and things are definitely looking up for them after a slow start to the 2023/24 season, the fact is that the all whites are only four points ahead of Huddersfield Town who are way down in 17th.

Daniel Farke and his side need to string together a number of results in order to begin to pull away from the pack, and install themselves amongst the favourites for promotion.

It’s to the German’s great credit that things already seem to be turning around at Elland Road.

The upheaval behind the scenes and within the squad during the summer and the first part of the season was something to behold.

Given that the transfer window stayed open well beyond the start of the Championship season, Leeds were always going to have problems with offloading certain players, others wanting to move on etc.

One of those to take the decision to try his luck on loan elsewhere was Luis Sinisterra, who had apparently gone on strike in the hope of forcing through a move.

Bournemouth did a season-long loan deal with Leeds, with Jaidon Anthony heading to Elland Road as a swap, but in an immediate case of ‘be careful what you wish for,’ Sinisterra isn’t having the best time of it at the Vitality Stadium.

As Football League World report, he’s only played 17 minutes as a substitute in the recent game against Chelsea.

Leeds are doing just fine without him so he may well regret being so hasty.

Emerson Palmieri aims a dig at Declan Rice

Emerson Palmieri aims a dig at Declan Rice

30/09/2023, England, Multi Sports, English Sports Publications, Article # 31447226

He’s only been gone a few months but already West Ham stars are firing digs at former captain, Declan Rice.

Now at Arsenal, Rice will forever be associated with the Hammers run to the Europa Conference League title, lifting the trophy in Prague to the delight of the thousands of east Londoners that had travelled in the hope of seeing a first major title in 43 years.

Billy Bonds was the last West Ham captain to lift a trophy before Rice, back in 1980 when a then Second Division Hammers team toppled the Gunners at Wembley. It remains the last time any team outside of the top-flight won the FA Cup.

Rice, for all of his exploits with West Ham, already seems to be a persona non-grata so far as some players are concerned.

“We’ve got four new players too and you can see the quality they bring to the squad,” Emerson Palmieri said to the official West Ham website.

“Because of them, I think we are stronger now than we were last season. We’ve played six or seven games in the Premier League now and you can see the quality we’re showing in the way we play.”

Whilst Rice isn’t name directly, the four players were only able to be brought in because of his sale to the Gunners so the inference won’t be lost on him.

Given that the two London sides have recently been paired in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, Rice has an immediate chance to come back and haunt his old employers.

It will be a real test for David Moyes and his squad and if it’s one they pass, perhaps Emerson’s words will be seen as somewhat prophetic.

West Ham new man played key role in the signings of Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus

West Ham new man played key role in the signings of Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus

30/09/2023, England, Multi Sports, English Sports Publications, Article # 31447227

West Ham United manager David Moyes has revealed that the former Netherlands international Johnny Heitinga helped the Hammers seal the signings of Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus.

Moyes reportedly got in touch with Heitinga regarding a move for the former Ajax duo and the new assistant coach played a key role in their arrival.

“I met Johnny in the summer a couple of times before I brought him in,” Moyes said. “I’d had some meetings with him but I was also asking him about the Ajax players and what might be there.

“I didn’t know I was going to end up getting them because they were two lads on our list of recruitment. We were keen on getting Joao Palhinha from Fulham and we didn’t get him. We were obviously looking to see who we could try and get after that. James Ward-Prowse was high on my list no matter what.

“But I was able to talk to Johnny about Edson and then Mo when he started to become a consideration. Steven Pienaar has been at Ajax as well and he was one of my ex-players [at Everton] so I phoned him about them too.”

The Hammers spent combined a total of more than £70 million for the two players and they will be hoping that the likes of Alvarez and Kudus could turn into major successes at the London club.

Alvarez has already established himself as a key player for West Ham and he has filled the void left by former captain Declan Rice. While Kudus has mostly been restricted to cup games, the Ghana international is expected to make his mark in the Premier League soon.

Both players were excellent for Ajax and they will look to showcase their qualities in the Premier League as well.
