COOLANGATTA, QLD (Monday, 19 March 2018): AirAsia and Australia’s leading surfing bodies have announced a joint partnership that will see the World’s Best Low Cost Carrier become Surfing’s Official Airline Partner in Australia.

Announced on the Gold Coast alongside the World Surfing League’s (WSL) Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast event with pro surfers Connor O’Leary, Tatiana Weston-Webb, Keanu Asing, and Paige Hareb, the deal between Surfing Australia, state territories and the WSL’s Australian professional series would encourage Australians to adventure beyond their own backyard and explore the hottest surf spots of Asia.

Torquay, VIC/AUS (Friday 16th March 2018): The Board of Surfing Victoria are pleased to announce the appointment of Ashleigh Wall as the new Chairperson as of March 13, 2018 taking over from the outgoing Paul Robson.
 
Ms Wall is the first female chair of Surfing Victoria. Joining the Board of Surfing Victoria in 2014, Ms Wall is an experienced corporate lawyer, passionate sportsperson and advocate for corporate social responsibility within the state.
 
Growing up in the Victorian coastal town of Barwon Heads, Ms Wall began surfing as a teenager and was an active member of the 13th Beach Boardriders club. This saw her become a junior and open female champion at the club.
 
Key priorities for Surfing Victoria under Ms Wall’s leadership will be to continue to work with key stakeholders to increase participation in all levels of surfing and promote gender equality through such things as its female stand up paddle boarding program Coasting.
 
“Surfing already plays a large role in the economy through tourism and businesses, and we will work with stakeholders to create greater value for our state.”
 
“I am really proud about the way in which we reach to all members of the community and believe surfing can play a key role in enriching people’s lives as a lifestyle, recreational or sporting pursuit.”
 
“We have introduced some fantastic programs which are working to increase participation and a level playing field for women and girls, and indigenous Australians, in all areas of the sport and this will continue to be a focus.” said Ms Wall.
 
 “I am honoured to be stepping into the role at such an important time in Surfing Victoria’s growth, and look forward to working with the Board and our CEO, to build on our strong foundations as a progressive, inclusive and leading sporting organisation” said Ms Wall.

Cape Woolamai, VIC/AUS (Saturday 3rd March 2018): Joe Van Dijk (Smiths Beach) and Zoe Clarke (Jan Juc) have taken out Round 2 of the Victorian Open Series presented by HIF Australia held at Woolamai Beach. 

Competitors were greeted with pumping conditions with the Woolamai banks lighting up all day delivering major scoring potential for all surfers during the course of the day. Earlier in the day many competitors found themselves entrenched in some amazing barrels. 

The Open Mens division was hotly contested all day with many heats going down to the wire. Getting the nod in the end was current WQS surfer Joe Van Dijk (Smiths Beach) who in the final showed his local knowledge to score a 16.80 out of a possible 20 point heat total.

"The waves were really fun out there". Van Dijk said.

"I'm stoked to get the win here at home, I was lucky to get a few good ones". 


Coming in a slender margin behind in 2nd was Tim Stevenson (Jan Juc 16.06) with Carl Wright (Phillip Island 15.50) trailing in 3rd, whilst Tristan Forras (Jan Juc) came in 4th with an 11.40 heat total out of a possible 20 points.

In the Open Womens Division, former Open Champion Zoe Clarke (Jan Juc) took a convincing win in the final finding a number of fun Woolamai walls. 

"The waves were amazing out there". Clarke said. 

"I can't wait to get back out there after the presentation, it's pumping".

Finishing in 2nd, charging throughout the whole day was Angela Ball (Jan Juc), with Sophie Fletcher (Phillip Island) and Bella Wilson (Jan Juc) finishing in 3rd and 4th respectively.

Day 1 of the first round of the HIF Victorian Longboard Titles presented by City to Surf Mobile Café kicked off in small waves at Clubbies (13th Beach) on the Bellarine Peninsula last Saturday. Cape Woolamai, VIC/AUS (Thursday 1st March 2018): Round Two of the Victorian Open Series presented by HIF Australia will head to Phillip Island this weekend with the expectation of excellent surf on Saturday.
 
The premier Open surfing series in the state brings together the best surfers in some of the best waves in Victoria, culminating at Bells Beach in September.
 
This weekend will see surfers such as reigning Open Champion Todd Rosewall (Jan Juc), WSL Qualifiying Series surfer and local hope Joe van Dijk (Smiths Beach), along with former Open champions Zoe Clarke (Jan Juc), Bella Wilson (Jan Juc) and Sophie Fletcher (Cape Woolamai).
 
Currently leading the ratings after a strong showing on the Mornington Peninsula is 2017 Champion Todd Rosewall. Rosewall has proven himself in solid surf over many years and will be a favorite with the pending forecast.
 
The same can be said for local surfer Sophie Fletcher, who has grown up surfing the banks at Cape Woolamai and will be one to watch on the weekend.
 
Official forecaster Coastalwatch Plus are calling for great waves all day on Saturdaywith 1.5m swell and light offshore breezes.
 
A call will be made on Saturday at 7:15am for a 7:30am start at Cape Woolamai.

13th Beach, VIC/AUS (Saturday 24th February, 2018): The first round of the HIF Victorian Longboard Titles presented by City to Surf Mobile Café has kicked off in small waves at Clubbies (13th Beach) on the Bellarine Peninsula. 

Opening the day in the Open Mens Logger Division, Reigning Victorian Open Mens Champion Ben Considine (Barwon Heads) used his local knowledge of the tricky 13th Beach banks to take out a convincing win in the first Quarterfinal. 

"The waves were small out there, but I am stoked to make it through to the Semi Finals". Said Considine.

"Hopefully we will get some more swell tomorrow at Ocean Grove". 

Considine later on in the morning also took out a emphatic win in his Open Mens Quarterfinal, booking a berth in the Semi Finals in the division. Considine scored a 15.34 heat total out of a possible 20 points. 

Other male standout performers of the day were Will Cousins (Torquay), Tomaso Bellasai (Mornington) and Liam Mccafferty (McCrae) and Liam Griggs Kennelly (Aireys Inlet). 

In the Open Womens Division former Australian Champion Emma Webb (Torquay), was too strong for her fellow competitors in the tough conditions. Webb scored a 14.50 total of out a possible 20 points in her semi final to book a spot in the Open Womens Final.

Female stand out performers included Angela King (Torquay) who not only cemented a spot in the Open Women's Final but also advanced to the Semi Finals in the Open Mens Logger Division. Molly Powell (Anglesea) also surfed exceptionally well in the small conditions. 

Competition will resume at 7.15am Sunday at Ocean Grove Main Beach.

13th Beach, VIC/AUS (Friday 23rd February, 2018): The first round of the HIF Victorian Longboard Titles presented by City to Surf Mobile Café is set to launch this weekend on the Bellarine Peninsula.
 
Over 60 of the best longboard and logger competitors in the state will be lining up to earn valuable ratings points in the race to a spot in the Victorian Longboard Team.
 
Surfers competing in the event include former Australian champions Ben Considine (Barwon Heads), Greg Brown (Jan Juc), Molly Powell (Anglesea), John Lane (Torquay), Emma Webb (Jan Juc) and Bob Smith (Jan Juc).
 
“It’s fantastic to see the longboard community gather together again for the state titles” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.
 
“We have some fantastic surfers return to the event this year with former Australian Champ Emma Webb and Molly Powell boosting the Women’s division.”
 
“With one of the biggest fields in recent memory there will be some fantastic surfing all weekend.”
 
Divisions for the event include Under 18 through to Over 65 along with the more traditional Logger events.
 
Round two of the series will be held at Point Impossible on the Surf Coast on May 19 & 20.
 
Surfing Victoria official forecaster Coastalwatch is forecasting a tricky weekend of surf with a small rising swell and offshore winds on Saturday morning before a westerly change that may force a relocation of the event to Ocean Grove Main Beach on Sunday.
 
First call for the event will be made at 13th Beach - Boings Car Park at 7:00am for a 7:15am start on Saturday.

Urquhart Bluff, Great Ocean Road (Tuesday, 20th February 2018): The Woorrangalook Victorian Koori Surf Titles was held over the weekend at Urquhart Bluff on the Great Ocean Road.
 
More than 120 indigenous surfers from across the state gathered to celebrate the 20th annual event, which brings together indigenous communities in a fun weekend of surfing and indigenous culture.
 
Communities represented at the event included East Gippsland, Portland and the South West, Koroit, Bendigo, Ballarat, Shepparton, Metropolitan Melbourne, Bass Coast, Mornington Peninsula as well as Geelong and the Surf Coast.

The event was opened on Saturday by Corrina Eccles and the Deadly Dancers Troupe who cleansed the event with a traditional smoking ceremony. This was followed by learn to surf sessions where all of the participants were given a skills and a water safety lesson. Saturday saw pumping conditions with light offshore winds and sunny skies. In the afternoon the junior competitive divisions were finalised along with the Open Women and Masters Women.
 
Sunday saw slightly smaller waves were both Open and Masters men’s divisions were contested. Jordie Campbell of Sandy Point won his 10th consecutive Open Men’s Title and gained a wildcard into the Rip Curl Pro Trials at Bells Beach.

“This event is such a fun weekend” said Campbell.
 
“Its awesome to see so many communities gather together and spend the weekend at the beach enjoying the ocean.”
 
Under 13 Girls Champion Fenella Collins from Pt Leo, Joe Joe Hayes-Griggs from the Latrobe Valley and Blade Butler of Geelong were awarded surfboards donated by Strong Brother, Strong Sister and painted with traditional Indigenous artwork by Cormach Evans.
 
The Good Sports Award provided the Department of Justice was awarded to Alla Purcell from the Macarthur in South West Victoria.
