Last Sunday saw the aerobics event season kick off with Trial 1 held at Torquay College.
With nearly 300 participants and 198 routines, the event was a great success with Aerosport Allstars hosting an aerobics event for the first time.
With the sun beaming down in Torquay, the gymnasts enjoyed performing their routines in front of a packed out crowd in Torquay College’s sport stadium. This event was also the introduction of a new aerobics floor, the use of the Karhs floor was the first for a Victorian aerobics event.
Gymnastics Victoria would like to thank Aerosport Allstars for the amazing job they did hosting this event.
Make sure you get down to Loreto Toorak for Trial 2 and some more amazing aerobics action on August 3rd.

Gymnastics Victoria Welcomes its New Chief Executive Officer Jamie Parsons
Jamie Parsons has commenced as Gymnastics Chief Executive Officer and has quickly sprung into action.
Jamie has worked in senior leadership positions in a range of different sports including Netball Australia, the 2007 FINA World Swimming Championships, the 2005 Deaflympic Games, Football Federation Victoria and Little Athletics Victoria.
Jamie has a real passion for sport and being a father of two boys who are sports mad, including one who has participated in Gymnastics at his local club, has real understanding of the importance of service delivery to sport communities.
Jamie explains “I am thrilled to be joining Gymnastics Victoria in this Chief Executive Officer role at a time when our sport continues to grow with record participation numbers”.
“I really enjoy working in a collaborative way and am looking forward to involving all members, clubs, volunteers, staff and other stakeholders in the identification, development and delivery of services that meet the needs and expectations of our participants”
“As all sports we have challenges to face including operating in one of the most competitive sport landscapes in the world”.
“I will be focusing on ensuring our services continue to grow our sport, are responsive to the needs of our member and are delivered to the highest possible standards”
One of Jamie’s first priorities will be to travel around the state meeting, meeting with clubs and members. We wish Jamie all the best in his role.
Gymnastics Victoria and Eastern Gymnastics Team Up for Victorian Championships
The 2013 Victorian Championships has come to a close, and GV would like to thank our amazing co-presentation club, Eastern Gymnastics, for helping make the event the success it was. Eastern took on the co-presentation role for the Victorian Championships for the first time this year, following on from several successful years of assistance by Skylark Acrobatics.
Headed by Club Coordinator Alison Dunn, Eastern personnel filled roles from Ticketing and Accreditation, Customer Service, Floor Management, to Sound and AV Operation and more, across ten full sessions of competition.
Eastern Gymnastics’ thirty-plus strong team of volunteers took on the event with enthusiasm, and could be seen working hard from dawn to dusk, assisting with the smooth running of the event.
A light-hearted highlight of the team's involvement was an impromptu "dance-off" on Monday to YMCA and the Macarena!
Gymnastics Victoria would like to thank each and every one of the Eastern Gymnastics team, without whom the competition would not have run so successfully.
Special mention and thanks must also go to the Trampoline Gymnastics Co-Presentation club, Cheltenham Youth Club (CYC), who provided expert personnel in the Trampoline arena to ensure that this event also ran to plan.
Any Victorian Gymnastics Club, big or small, with or without a competition venue, can get involved in Gymnastics Victoria’s Co-Presentation program. Get in touch with the GV Events team and see the link below for more information.

LaunchPad Re-Energises Clubs and Coaches
|
Workforce, Tuesday, 4 June 2013
Since July 2012 Clubs across Victoria have become re-energised by becoming LaunchPad accredited clubs. Since July 2012 Clubs across Victoria have become re-energised by becoming LaunchPad accredited clubs. LaunchPad is Gymnastics Australia’s participation initiative that strives to support clubs in developing all areas of their programs. LaunchPad can help big and small clubs with Marketing, Coach Development and creating School Connections. Recently Geelong YMCA and Eastern Gymnastics held Open Day’s to introduce their communities to LaunchPad.
Geelong YMCA was fortunate to have Alexandra Eade, Junior International Gymnasts from the Victoria Woman’s High Performance Centre and Abby Shrader and Sara Bilcalvs from the Geelong SuperCats basketball team in attendance. Over 50 children participated in the LaunchPad activities and the day provided the opportunity for new members to try gymnastics. Eastern Gymnastics also hosted an open day at their revamped Box Hill North venue in April. The children were enjoying the activities and circuits for a full 1 and a half hour. The club finished the day with new enrolments and each child went home tired but happy with a balloon, a sticker and a great sense of achievement! “LaunchPad has been a great initiative for our Club. The training has re-energised our coaches and given them lots of fun new coaching ideas. It has also given us a new focus for our second venue and our Numbers have increased as a result.” Said Eastern Gymnastics Club Coordinator Alison Dunn. Ingrid Howell from Geelong YMCA has also stated that their experience with LaunchPad has boosted their coaching morale and programs. “Schools have noticed and commented positively on the changes in the lessons delivered to their students. Coaches are enjoying relating their successes with their gymnasts to other coaches using LaunchPad and thus spreading the enthusiasm and the LaunchPad brand.” Many more clubs have begun to use the LaunchPad brand and philosophies to boost their programs. If you think your club could do with a little inspiration please contact Youth Participation Coordinator Alison Lyons to find out more. participation@gymnasticsvictoria.org.au |
