Thursday 28 September 2017
Football Federation Australia (FFA) today officially unveiled the updated Hyundai A-League Championship Trophy following the rebranding of the Hyundai A-League competition in the lead-up to the 2017/18 season.
While FFA considered changing the design and style of the new Hyundai A-League Championship Trophy, it was decided that its uniqueness was the very property that defined it. As such, FFA has stayed true to the original iconic design and modified it to reflect the new competition logo and style concepts.
“The Hyundai A-League Championship Trophy is unique, and over the past 12 seasons of the competition has become a symbol of the success of our teams, the commitment of our Clubs, as well as the passion of the league’s Members and fans,” said the Head of the Hyundai A-League & Westfield W-League, Greg O’Rourke.
“We again thank Clive Solari and his team at D3 Design who also produced the original Hyundai A-League Championship Trophy, and also thank W. J. Sanders in Sydney for their fine craftsmanship in producing the new trophy.
“Next week we will see ten clubs begin the battle for the right to hold this iconic trophy aloft,” concluded O’Rourke.
Director of D3 Design Clive Solari was honoured that his company was tasked with updating the design.
“I am proud to say that the new trophy has a modern and clean design that will continue to maintain its iconic characteristics,” Solari said.
The Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season kicks off next Friday night (6 October) when Melbourne City FC host Brisbane Roar FC in the opening match at AAMI Park.
Sydney
Wednesday 28 June 2017
Football Federation Australia today released the eagerly anticipated Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season draw.
The Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season will kick off with a trio of blockbusting rounds featuring a Big Blue (Sydney FC v Melbourne Victory) Grand Final rematch in Round 1, a Melbourne Derby in Round 2 followed by a Sydney Derby in Round 3.
Melbourne City FC will host Brisbane Roar FC at AAMI Park in the opening match of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season. The following day will see an F3 Derby in the early game at Central Coast Stadium followed by the Big Blue at Etihad Stadium. Sunday’s matches start with Wellington Phoenix and Adelaide United meeting at Westpac Stadium and the first round will be completed when Perth Glory take on Western Sydney Wanderers FC at Spotless Stadium.
The Hyundai A-League 2018 Finals Series will begin on the weekend of 20-22 April with the Hyundai A-League 2018 Grand Final scheduled for the weekend of 5-6 May 2018.
Speaking today, FFA Head of Hyundai A-League & Westfield W-League, Greg O’Rourke, was excited about releasing the 13th edition of the competition draw.
“It gives me great pleasure to release the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season Draw under a new logo and brand identity,” said O’Rourke.
“Developing this draw has been a challenging process to accommodate the preferences of the clubs, venue availability and also the AFC Champions League 2018.
“We have added a new feature to this season’s draw with all clubs playing each other twice between rounds 1 to 18. The remaining nine rounds will see each club play each other once in the lead-up to the Hyundai A-League 2018 Finals Series. This stretch of nine Rounds will be known as “The Chase” with 27 points on offer in the run home to Round 27.
“This will be the first season of the Hyundai A-League under our new broadcast agreement with Fox Sports who have been a broadcast partner of the competition since 2005 and we are once again look forward to partnering with them.
“We are also very excited about working with our new Free-to-Air partner, Network Ten, who will be broadcasting the Harvey Norman Saturday night match and the Hyundai A-League 2018 Finals Series live.
“All in all, we believe that this draw will set the scene for another thrilling season of the Hyundai A-League,” concluded O’Rourke.

Thursday 3 November 2016
Football Federation Australia (FFA) and NAB, together with Sydney FC are proud to announce Brandon O’Neill as the October nominee for the Hyundai A-League, NAB Young Footballer of the Year 2016/17 Award.
The nomination is O’Neill’s first nomination for the NAB Young Footballer of the Year Award.
O’Neill’s outstanding performances in the opening four rounds of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 are a major reason that Sydney FC have maximum points so far. In addition his free kick against the Western Sydney Wanderers FC at the Sydney Derby is already a contender for goal of the year.
“It is a massive honour to be recognised as the NAB Young Footballer of the Year for the month of October. I’d like to thank all my team mates because without them and all of their hard work, I wouldn’t have gained this recognition,” said O’Neill.
“It has been a great start to the season and it’s very enjoyable to be part of a team playing great football, and also to be mixing with a group of friends who get on very well off the field as well as on it.”
O’Neill is the first player to be nominated for the Hyundai A-League, NAB Young Footballer of the Year 2016/17 Award.
The Hyundai A-League NAB Young Footballer of the Year 2016/17 will be announced at the Dolan Warren Awards Night.
Maryana Andrew, NAB Joondalup Branch Manager said she is delighted to see the NAB Young Footballer of the Year Award continue to unearth the stars of tomorrow.
“We congratulate Brandon on his nomination and look forward to watching his development and growth on the football field in the years to come,” said Ms. Andrew.
“We are also pleased to recognise Brandon’s nominated junior club, ECU Joondalup and hope that our support will help the club to continue developing the game at a local grassroots level.”
NAB has generously donated a $1,500 NAB Club Recognition Award to Brandon’s nominated junior club, which includes a range of equipment along with a financial reward.
The overall winner of the Hyundai A-League, NAB Young Footballer of the Year 2016/17 Award will receive a $10,000 personal investment portfolio, along with a NAB Private Client Manager to assist with a range of banking and financial services.
“As a supporter of the NAB Young Footballer of the Year Award, we are proud to play an important role in identifying and rewarding the future stars of the game. Who knows, we may even see some of the nominees donning the boots for the Socceroos in the future,” Ms Andrew continued.
Each month representatives from the FFA Technical department vote on a 3-2-1 basis for the most outstanding U-23 players in the Hyundai A-League during that period.

8 October 2016
Tonight’s Sydney Derby at ANZ Stadium has set a new Hyundai A-League attendance record with a crowd of 61,880 in full voice as Sydney FC defeated the Western Sydney Wanderers FC in the opening round of the season, Football Federation Australia (FFA) has announced.
The figure of 61,880 for the first Sydney Derby at ANZ Stadium eclipsed the previous Hyundai A-League attendance record of 55,436 which was set at the Hyundai A-League 2007 Grand Final at Etihad Stadium between Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United.
The hype around the opening weekend of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 Season signalled the all-time attendance record would be in danger of tumbling, and FFA CEO David Gallop said the attendance figure proved that the Sydney Derby has become one of Australia’s premier ‘must see’ events on the Australian sporting calendar.
“The crowd figure at tonight’s Sydney Derby at ANZ Stadium is a clear sign that the Hyundai A-League season is off and running and that there is a huge groundswell of interest in the league this season,” said Gallop.
“All those people and families out there involved in football at some level but yet to have a connection with the Hyundai A-League or any of the ten clubs, tonight’s game is evidence of why you’ve gotta have a team", concluded Gallop.
The previous biggest crowd for a Sydney Derby was 41,213 at Allianz Stadium in Round 2 of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 Season.
