February Feel Good Stories A huge congratulations to Frances Higgins who won the City of Gosnells Australia Day WA Community Citizen of the Year Award. Frances is a Gymnastics for All coach at Gosnells PCYC and has been coaching at the club for the past 25 years. Steps Squad Train at HBF Stadium The Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Steps Squad for 2017/18 attended their final training session at HBF Stadium on Sunday 4th February.
During the session, athletes received valuable coaching advice from some of WA’s top coaches and got the chance to train with athletes from other clubs. This created a sense of community for the girls that will hopefully remain during their journey towards the higher levels.

High Performance Squad Jumps to Success The inaugural Gymnastics WA Trampoline High Performance Squad recently held two training sessions lead by head coaches Leo Kimble (Developing Athletes) & Elliot Stratton (Emerging Athletes). Sixteen athletes were selected to attend two sessions, with the focus on developing a larger and more competitive trampoline squad within WA and provide assistance to ensure our athletes progress with skills, technique, strength and conditioning.
Future Champions Learn the Importance of Nutrition On Sunday 11th February, twelve of our Developing Champion athletes and their coaches attended the Developing Champions: Nutrition Workshop, developing and expanding their knowledge on the importance of nutrition as a High Performance athlete.
Gymnastics WA spoke with National Centre of Excellence (NCE) Program Manager, Dhana Antulov on how the NCE athletes performed at the Australian Classic and the obstacles they had to overcome.
There were also two West Australians announced on National Squads!
Save the date Go for 2&5 Coaches Clinics are now scheduled for 2018. The Clinics will provide opportunity to learn from leasing professionals in coaching and athlete development.
Gymnastics a truly sport for all Gymnastics WA welcomed families and budding gymnasts from the WA Foundation for Deaf Children for their Christmas Party. Twenty children living with hearing impairment experienced the thrill of bouncing on the tumble track, swinging on the bars and jumping from the mini trampoline at the State Gymnastics Centre.

WAG Spring Foundation Festival Gymnastics WA is happy to announce that the 2016 WAG Spring Foundation Festival will be run by the Parents for Gymnastics (PFG) group.
The event will a big boost for PFG who are a not for profit group that provides parents and supporters of our WAIS/GWA Fliers gymnasts the opportunity to fundraise to assist their children travel to camps and competitions, Nationally and Internationally as part of their development.

GWA Collects Organisational Excellence Award Gymnastics Western Australia won the Organisational Excellence Award at the 2016/2017 Sport and Industry Awards held at Fraser’s Restaurant on Tuesday 26th July 2016.
With tough competition against finalists Swimming WA and the Western Australian Cricket Association in the Organisational Excellence category, Gymnastics WA is very pleased to win this prestigious award. The award was presented to Gymnastics WA President, Karon Williams by DSR Director General, Ron Alexander.
Clubs working together Northern Districts Gymnastics Club partnered with Jurien Bay Gymnastics Club to help provide the club with a sprung floor. With the help of many volunteers over a weekend in late July the club now can tumble and flip on a floor with a bit of extra bounce. The club and its members are absolutely thrilled with their new sprung floor!

Advanced Module # 1 – September 24th Relevant to Intermediate coaches, club administrators
Are you working toward your Advanced Accreditation or just looking to be proficient at coaching Acrobatic skills (saltos, etc)?
The 2016/2017 GWA Workforce Development Grants are now available! Be sure to have a look at the 2016/2017 GWA Workforce Development grants which offer a unique opportunity for members to develop the capacity of their workforce through targeted education and training opportunities and special projects.
The first time this event was introduced to WA was only one year ago and this year TeamGym has come round again having grown dramatically. With the unique rules of this event, how can you not be intrigued? TeamGym is huge in Europe, with strong teams of all levels and backgrounds, pitting their skills and teamwork against other teams. The Australian TeamGym program has been developed for teams of gymnasts, with performances on three different apparatus: Floor, Tumbling and Mini-trampoline.
Teams can have a minimum of six and maximum of twelve members but depending on individual strengths, not everyone needs to perform on every apparatus.
The event will be held on Sunday 21st August at the State Gymnastics Centre from 9.30am, so be sure to come along and see for yourself and experience an amazing atmosphere and join in to cheer on all the teams.
MPIO Course The Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) course is specifically designed for people who want to be a MPIO in their sport and recreation organisation or club.

Certificate IV Training and Assessor The Department of Sport and Recreation TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Program is nationally recognised and is being facilitated by the Australian Institute of Workforce Development (AIWD). The Program consists of a 3.5 day face-to-face intensive training workshop, followed by some post-course, self-paced course work and assessment tasks.

Check out the National Danish performance team and their 2014-2015 World Tour. They will be coming to Perth in October with inspiring workshops and a breath taking show, so don’t miss the opportunity to get the team into your club to up skill and inspire your workforce and athletes.

Go for 2&5 NWRGA Gymnastics Championships 2016 Wrap Up The NWRGA in conjunction with the Karratha Gymnastics Club, hosted the Go for 2 & 5 NWRGA Regional Gymnastic Championships on the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of July.
It was a great weekend with over 170 athletes competing in Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics and 90 competing in Tumbling.
Athletes and their families travelled from Carnarvon, Hedland and Broome to enjoy a fun filled weekend of gymnastics and to determine the regional champions in both MAG and WAG.
FreeG Workshop Other than Spider Man have you ever seen someone climb up a wall or flip over a park bench? Chances are they are doing FreeG, the exciting new GfA program being brought to Australia from British Gymnastics. The best bit about this new program is that every club can be involved and all they have to do is get their coaches through the FreeG Workshop!

Newman College Students Inspired by Gymnastics In Term 2 the students from the Newman College education support unit bounded into the State Gymnastics Centre to get another taste of gymnastics in their 8 week program.
With support and encouragement from the coaches many students were able to achieve their first pull up or swing on the rings unassisted for the first time.

Australian Gymnastics Championships- Week 1 The event served not only as an opportunity for Australia's finest to perform at a national level, but also as the final selection event for the solo WAG spot on the 2016 Olympic Team.
WA proudly now has several new National Champions in both MAG & WAG, highlighted by the Senior WAG Vault title won by Emily Little (Spirit / WAIS) and the Senior WAG Beam title won by Lauren Mitchell (College Park / WAIS).
Australian Gymnastics Championships- Week 2 After two long weeks and several thousand routines, the 2016 Australian Gymnastics Championships wrapped up on Saturday night at Melbourne's Hisense Arena.
The pinnacle of WA's achievements in Week 2 was undoubtedly the 1-2 finish from Eva Kierath (Peak Trampoline) and Naomie Ding (Southern Star) in the Senior Women's Trampoline competition.
Eva's victory makes her WA's first ever Senior National Champion in Trampoline, so congratulations to Eva and all involved at Peak Trampoline on this achievement.
Make a Tax Deductible donation for a new Aerobics Floor at the State Gymnastics Centre Gymnastics WA is currently campaigning to raise funds for an Aerobics Floor via on-line tax-deductible donations through the Australian Sport Foundation (ASF). Gymnastics WA calls for Board Applications Gymnastics WA is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill two appointed positions on the GWA board. The board is seeking candidates with skills within one of the following areas: risk management, finance, facility and information and communication technology.
GWA Visits the Wheatbelt and Mid West Regions Emily Johnston (Inclusion and Participation Coordinator) and Michelle Francis (Club Development Coordinator) set on the road to engage in their first of three regional tours this year. This first regional tour was to set their sights up north and visit the four clubs of the Mid-West/ Wheatbealt area. These club were Jurien Bay Gymnastics, WA PCYC- Geraldton, Batavia Coast Gymnastics and Kalbarri Gymnastics Club.

GWA Floor Managers Course Gymnastics WA will be holding a free course for volunteers to gain the knowledge and skills required to be a Floor Manager at GWA events. WA Selects 2016 State Teams Following the recent series of Qualification Competitions, the MAG, WAG, RG, TRP & ACR State Teams have been announced for 2016.
The WA State Team will attend the 2016 Australian Championships at Melbourne's Hisense Arena from 23rd May - 4th June.
The upcoming Rio Olympics has added another dimension to this year's event, with selection on the Australian Olympic Team being decided for WAG & TRP at the Championships.
Congratulations to all team members on their selection to represent WA at this prestigious event.
WAG Interstate Classic and more... On Saturday evening (30th April) the State Gymnastics Centre will play host to the WAG Interstate Classic featuring top gymnasts from not only WA but also from the National Centre of Excellence in Victoria and Queensland.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our WA girls to gain further interstate competition on their home turf.
It will be the last hit out for the likes of Lauren Mitchell, Olivia Vivian and co before they head to Melbourne for the 2016 Australian Gymnastics Championships and a shot at the Rio Olympics.

Medal Engraving at Autumn States Gymnastics WA’s preferred medal and trophy supplier, Prime Trophies will be at the State Gymnastics Centre on Sundayafternoon for session 6 & 7 of the Go for 2&5 GWA Autumn State Championships. They will be providing engraving services for athletes that have won medals over the weekend. Athletes are encouraged to bring their 2016 State Championship medals along and have them personally engraved with their name, level and event.
WAG Judging Scholarships The WAG Judging Committee awards scholarships to WAG judges who would like to develop their judging skills and gain experience. The two Scholarships on offer are: - Regional Judging Scholarships - National Exposure Scholarships

It's that time of year again, with the prestigious Go for 2&5 GWA Autumn State Championships just around the corner being held from the
29th April – 1st May 2016.
Gymnastics WA would like to invite you to show your enthusiastic support for all our competitors who have worked hard to get to this State Championship event.
The performances at these Championships will be at a very high level! We are delighted to say the gymnasts who have represented Australia at the Olympics, World Championships, Commonwealth Games and Australian Youth Olympic Festival will be competing against our up and coming gymnasts for the
State Championship title.
The Championships also serve as an important lead up event for the forthcoming Australian Gymnastic Championships to be held at Hisense Arena in Melbourne from the 23rd May – 4th June 2016.
We will also be having GK Elite Sportwear attending the event from Sydney, so be sure to come along and get yourself some new Gymnastics Apparel.
Staff Update- April 2016 Gymnastics WA has undergone some staffing changes over the last few months. The need for a full time Club Development Coordinator has now been met with the appointment of
Michelle Francis.
Matthew is now working permanently as the Facility and Communications Coordinator. Jaye's position as Reception & Admin Support has been changed to Officer Administrator.

Gymnastics WA also farewelled Sharron Isard in January 2016 and would like to thank her for all that she has done for the Organisation. Sharron worked for Gymnastics WA for a spectacular 8 years and has been a much loved and valued staff member.
Go for 2&5 Interschool Challenge The 2016 Go for 2&5 Interschool Challenge will be held on the 28th- 30th June at the State Gymnastics Centre. The event will consist of MAG & WAG competition for Years 4-12 and a Stations Challenge for Years 1-3.

Sporting Schools Gymnastics continues to be one of the most requested programs Australia wide and money made from these programs has gone directly to our clubs. All clubs are strongly encouraged to register as Sporting School Providers so they don't miss out on the opportunity to deliver programs in schools, provide additional employment for their coaches and generate more income for the club.
If your school is interested or you know of a school that may be interested in a Sporting Schools gymnastics program in Term 2, funding applications close Friday April 15th.

Member Protection Information Course The Department of Sport and Recreation are holding an MPIO Course on the 23rd March. This is an excellent opportunity for clubs to put someone on the course so the club meets its National Affiliation Standards.
