Sheldon Haudenschild dominates for Arctic Cat All Star win at Wayne County Speedway

ORRVILLE, OH (April 22, 2017) - With his World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series weekend commitments in Arkansas and Missouri washed away by Mother Nature, Wooster, Ohio’s Sheldon Haudenschild decided to make the long trek home. The decision proved to be worth $5,000.

Sheldon Haudenschild dominated Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions competition on Saturday evening at Wayne County Speedway, charging forward from sixth on the main event grid to win the non-stop, 30-lap A-main by a margin equaling six seconds. The current World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Rookie of the Year point leader took command for the first time on lap 12, driving under his father, Jac Haudenschild, between the first and second corner. It was the 16th Arctic Cat All Star victory of Haudenschild’s career and his fifth at Wayne County Speedway.

“This car was a dream all night long,” Sheldon Haudenschild explained in victory lane. “My guys did one heck of a job which made my job a lot easier, too. The track tonight was great as always. It’s pretty cool to come back here and have an opportunity to race close to home.”

The “Wild Child” Jac Haudenschild, aboard the Jamie Miller-owned No. 6M, led the Arctic Cat All Star field to green on Saturday night at Wayne County Speedway, quickly overtaken by Caleb Armstrong as the front-runners approached the flagstand for the first time. The New Castle, Indiana, native maintained on top until lap three when Jac Haudenschild reclaimed the point position. Haudenschild and Armstrong, soon flanked by Chad Kemenah, raced at the front of the field in that order until lap nine when Sheldon Haudenschild made his first appearance inside the top-three.

Haudenschild, aboard the Haudenschild Racing/Southern Pacific Farms/Finzer Farms/No. 93, drove by Chad Kemenah to claim third on lap nine, eventually taking the second position from Caleb Armstrong on lap ten. By that time, traffic had already started to intensify, allowing young Haudenschild to catch his father by utilizing slower cars, as well as the very topside of the speedway. The father/son duo battled through lap 11, only to swap positions on lap 12, with the winning move occurring near the exit of turn two. Sheldon Haudenschild was unchallenged the remaining distance, instantly increasing his advantage to a near-full straightaway by lap 15. When the final checkers flew, Haudenschild had a six second advantage, chased to the finish by Chad Kemenah, Jac Haudenschild, Caleb Armstrong, and Travis Philo.

“The cushion in one and two was really good, but my car was so good that I didn’t have to go up there and touch it much,” Haudenschild explained. “I got around my dad early, but you can never be too sure about him. He never gives up, so you almost have to expect that he’ll be coming back at some point. I wish him and I could have finished 1-2, but it is what it is. We are happy to get the win.”

With his runner-up finish, Chad Kemenah remains in control of the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions title chase. The five-time and defending Arctic Cat All Star champion now has seven top-ten feature finishes in eight Arctic Cat All Star starts.

“We have a really good race team right now. The car was really good all night long. Hats off to Sheldon [Haudenschild] and his guys. They were really good,” Kemenah explained. “Consistency is really important. We’re just going to keep doing what we’ve been doing and the wins and championships will show up.”

With their three-race swing through The Buckeye State complete, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will switch gears and turn east, this time crossing The Keystone State for a trio of programs in Central Pennsylvania. Dubbed the Pennsylvania Posse, Central Pennsylvania’s finest will challenge the near-20 Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions teams on three consecutive occasions stretching from Friday, April 28, to Sunday, April 30.

The Arctic Cat All Stars will visit Williams Grove Speedway, Port Royal Speedway and Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway, respectively, during the upcoming weekend, each awarding a $5,000 top prize, as well as full points toward the 2017 Arctic Cat All Star championship. “America’s Series” nearly swept competition in Central Pennsylvania during its spring swing of 2016, earning victories at Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway and Port Royal Speedway on April 17 and April 23.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (April 19, 2017) - Tony Stewart’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their April march through The Buckeye State with a visit to the NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio; the final Ohio program on the April calendar for the Arctic Cat All Stars, as well as the final Ohio appearance until the Series returns to Attica Raceway Park on Friday, May 26. As an added bonus to Arctic Cat All Star fans who can not attend Wayne County Speedway, the event will be broadcast via live stream pay-per-view that will be available for purchase online at www.thecushion.com.

Wayne County Speedway’s season-opening Arctic Cat All Star invasion will take shape on Saturday evening, April 22. Similar to Atomic Speedway and Attica Raceway Park, a stout, local contingent of Ohio regulars are expected to be on hand to defend home dirt against a roster of nearly 20 full-time All Stars, each battling for a $5,000 payday. Saturday’s visit will be the first of four for the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions in 2017, returning to the 3/8-mile, clay oval during Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket, Labor Day weekend for the $10,000-to-win Pete Jacobs Memorial, and finally during the early segment of October.

The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions made their most recent Wayne County Speedway appearance on Sunday, September 4, when Wooster, Ohio’s Sheldon Haudenschild earned the inaugural Pete Jacobs Memorial victory worth $10,000. The win was Haudenschild’s third in a row during Arctic Cat All Star competition, also capturing victories at Millstream Speedway and Attica Raceway Park on August 28 and September 3, respectively.

Alvada Ohio’s Chad Kemenah, the five-time and defending Arctic Cat All Star champion, will lead the Series into competition on Saturday night at Wayne County Speedway. The pilot of the Hunter Racing/Seneca Energy/No. 10H sits on top of the current standings with an 80 point advantage, earning six top-ten finishes, four of which inside the top-five, during his first seven Arctic Cat All Star feature starts. Kemenah has one victory on the season; earning $5,000 at Atomic Speedway on Sunday, April 9.

Caleb Armstrong will enter Wayne County Speedway gates currently second in the Arctic Cat All Star championship chase, followed by Caleb Helms, Ryan Smith and Donny Schatz. Armstrong has finished inside the top-ten on four occasions thus far in 2017, most recently at Attica Raceway Park on Saturday, April 15, when the New Castle, Indiana, native moved forward from 15th on the main event grid to finish eighth.

INDIANAPOLIS (October 19, 2016) - Entering the final weekend of competition as one of the closest point battles in Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions history, “America’s Series” will determine a 2016 champion on Saturday evening, October 22, at Atomic Speedway, concluding a near-50 race campaign through much of the Northeast and Midwest that welcomed nearly 300 different sprint car competitors to the dirt in 2016. Thirteen drivers from four different states committed themselves to the entire championship campaign this season; one of the most competitive and diverse rosters in All Star history.

“I want to congratulate all of the drivers and teams for another successful All Star season. The schedule, the miles, the preparation, the maintenance; it takes an indescribable amount of work and dedication to complete a season like we had in 2016. I’m sure the effort will be more than rewarding,” Tony Stewart said, All Star Circuit of Champions owner. “Although we’ve reached the end, we still have a championship to determine. It’s exciting to witness one of the closest battles in this series’ history. We are all excited to see how things unfold.”

The 2016 Arctic Cat All Star championship finale at Atomic Speedway is set for Friday and Saturday, October 21-22, and will feature a two-day program complete with qualifying and heat race competition on Friday, followed by consolation and feature competition on Saturday. Saturday night’s main event will award a $20,000 winner’s share, as well as officially determine the 2016 Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions titlist.

Despite being plagued with issues resulting from Mother Nature during early season attempts, the championship finale will feature the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions at Atomic Speedway for a second time in 2016; a first since Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket in late June when recent NASCAR Sprint Cup winner Kyle Larson earned the $5,000 victory. It was his second of two victories during Ohio Sprint Speedweek.

With a combined total of 10 Arctic Cat All Star championships to their credit, Alvada, Ohio’s Chad Kemenah and Hartford, Ohio’s Dale Blaney will enter the 2016 Arctic Cat All Star finale separated by a mere 18 markers; one of the closest championship margins in the 46-year history of “America’s Series,” closely equaling the excitement of outcomes that occurred in 1992, 1993 and 2007.

“Our game plan for much of the season has been to focus on each individual race. We’ve been able to stay consistent and race our way toward the front. Because of that, we are now in the position that we are in,” Chad Kemenah explained, driver of the Hunter Racing/Seneca Energy/Bonnell’s Rod Shop/DKW Transport/No. 10H. “Our game plan will remain that way even entering the last race of the season. Earning a win on Saturday is what we are working for. I can’t thank Rob Hunter and the entire team enough for this opportunity. Rob gives us the equipment necessary to be in this position. I would love to earn him a championship.”

In 1992 and 1993, All Star legends Frankie Kerr and Kevin Huntley settled All Star championship battles by less than five points; Huntley earned the championship in 1992 by four points, followed by a precedent-setting tie between Kerr and Huntley in 1993. In 2007, the All Star championship was once again settled by single-digits with Greg Wilson edging out Danny Smith by two markers for a second consecutive title.

“It’s a close battle, but my only concern, and my team’s only concern, is that Atomic Speedway is paying $20,000 this weekend,” Dale Blaney explained, pilot of the Big Game Treestands/GoMuddy.com/CH Motorsports/No. 1. “I have no control of the point situation. Right now, our only game plan is to win that $20,000. At the end of the night, we’ll look back and see where we finished in relation to Chad (Kemenah), and if things go our way, we may be in a position to win the title. My only advantage right now is that there is going to be a good field of cars there this weekend. That’s my only bonus right now.”

In addition to the two-day Arctic Cat All Star program, a “Race of Champions” will also be contested, highlighting the Friday night portion of the weekend schedule. The event, hosted by Atomic Speedway officials to honor all current and former 410 sprint car track champions and series champions throughout the country, will award a $2,000 top prize after 20 laps of green flag competition. Nearly 15 drivers from 11 different series and tracks are committed to participating in the “Race of Champions” on Friday, October 21. The committed roster includes, but is not limited to, Ohio Sprint Car Series champion Cole Duncan, Knoxville Raceway and National Sprint League champion Danny Lasoski, Fremont Speedway champion Broc Martin, FAST Series champion Byron Reed, IRA champion Jeremy Schultz, and Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association champion Dave Dickson.

Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, will open pit gates at 2:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, October 21-22. Spectator gates are scheduled to swing open at 4:00 pm on Friday, October 21. A mandatory Arctic Cat All Star drivers meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:15, followed by hot laps at 6.

Rico Abreu takes non-stop Sprintacular!
Dale Blaney cuts Kemenah’s point lead to 18

ROSSBURG, Ohio (October 8, 2016) - St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu secured his fourth Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions victory of the 2016 season on Saturday night at Eldora Speedway; leading all 30 circuits of the non-stop, Sprintacular main event to officially solidify his position on top of the feature podium. For Abreu, the Eldora Speedway victory was the second of his career at The Big E during Arctic Cat All Star competition, holding back a pair of Arctic Cat All Star championship point contenders, Dale Blaney and Chad Kemenah, for a cool $5,000. Blaney would cross under the final checkers just behind Abreu, followed by Chad Kemenah, a hard-charging Cap Henry, and Cole Duncan.

“Hats off to Eldora Speedway and the entire staff. There are a lot of cars here between all three of the divisions (118). That is definitely not easy,” Rico Abreu explained. “I especially want to thank all of you fans for sticking this out through the cold weather here tonight. I’m not real used to this. I’m used to California weather. This is so much fun, though. I enjoy getting to come here and being a part of everything at Eldora Speedway.”

Rico Abreu started third on the feature grid, taking command before the completion of lap one over Dale Baney and Sheldon Haudenschild. The California native wasted no time and began to stretch his advantage right from the drop of the green flag; extending his lead to nearly three seconds by lap three. Dale Blaney eventually settled into second, followed by Chad Kemenah and Sheldon Haudenschild.

Abreu, Blaney and Kemenah raced-on unshuffled, hitting their first obstacle in the form of traffic with just ten laps in the books. Rubber started to come into play by the mid-point of the 30-lap program, allowing the racing surface to narrow which ultimately shrunk Abreu’s racing lane and advantage. Abreu’s two to three second lead shrunk to less than one second over Blaney and Kemenah by lap 25, with all three eventually racing single file and nose to tail on a thin lane of rubbered-up racing surface. Abreu held on, earning a sixth career victory against the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, equaling that of Kerry Madsen and Kasey Kahne on the all-time win list.

“I knew Dale (Blaney) was getting close. I probably shouldn’t have, but I looked up at the big screen a few times and saw he was behind me,” Rico Abreu explained. “You just have to stay patient with the lapped cars. It was taking rubber and the racing line kept getting narrower and narrower. I was able to get around the lapped cars that I needed to. By that time, the lapped cars that were ahead of me weren’t passing anybody. I just had to make sure to hit my marks and stay patient.”

Dale Blaney’s runner-up finish allowed the “Low Rider” to snip away at Chad Kemenah’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions point advantage. Kemenah, a former four-time Arctic Cat All Star point champion, will lead Dale Blaney into the Atomic Speedway season finale with an 18-point margin. The Alvada, Ohio, native led Blaney by 20 points entering the Sprintacular at Eldora Speedway.

“Overall, it was a really good run for us tonight,” Dale Blaney explained. “Second is tough to take here. I mean, Rico runs really good here so I can’t take that away from him or us. We really started to get single file there, especially in three and four, which made things really difficult in terms of passing. I’m happy with second. Things are going to be interesting at Atomic.”

The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will wrap up the 2016 season with a two-day visit to the Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday, October 21-22. All Star championship weekend will feature a full, Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions program during the two-day visit, complete with qualifying time trials and heat races on Friday, followed by consolations, dash and a $20,000-to-win main event on Saturday.

As an added bonus, a “Race of Champions” will be contested during the Friday night portion of the All Star championship weekend at Atomic Speedway. Sprint car track champions, as well as series champions, from coast to coast are invited to participate, all battling for a $2,000 top prize. All Star championship battle still “too close to call”

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (October 4, 2016) - The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will make their fourth and final Eldora Speedway appearance of the season on Saturday evening, October 8, helping the World’s Greatest Dirt Track open and shut their doors for the final time of 2016.

The Eldora Speedway season finale, known formally as the Sprintacular, will feature a complete Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions program, awarding $5,000 to the main event winner. The NRA “360” Sprint Invaders and Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (B.O.S.S.) non-wing sprint cars will also be on the Sprintacular agenda, creating a full-blown, open wheel spectacle for sprint car enthusiasts

The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions made their most recent Eldora Speedway appearance on Saturday evening, September 24, during night two of the two-day Four Crown Nationals weekend. Ian Madsen, brother of former Kings Royal champion Kerry Madsen, was the Four Crown Nationals main event winner, taking command with just three circuits remaining to solidify his spot on the Eldora Speedway victory lane stage for the first time in his career.

Chad Kemenah, the current Arctic Cat All Star point leader, finished second on September 24, followed by Randy Hannagan, Kraig Kinser, and Brady Bacon. Madsen became the third different Arctic Cat All Star winner at The Big E in 2016, joining Jac Haudenschild (Ohio Sprint Speedweek) and Donny Schatz (Kings Royal; show-up points event) in the history books.

With his podium finish during Four Crown Nationals competition, Alvada, Ohio’s Chad Kemenah was able to reclaim the top spot in the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions’ tile chase and will lead the charge back into Rossburg, Ohio. The former series champion, earning four consecutive titles from 2002 until 2005, will enter the annual Sprintacular with a 20-point advantage in the title chase; taking advantage of Dale Blaney’s misfortune during Four Crown Nationals weekend when the “Low Rider” made contact with the outside retaining wall during main event action. Kemenah has one victory on the season, occurring in Bedford, Pennsylvania, as well as 23 top-five finishes in 41 A-main starts.

Blaney, a seven-time main event winner thus far in 2016, finds himself second in the championship chase entering the Eldora Speedway Sprintacular, still mathematically eligible for the championship with two point events remaining.  The Hartford, Ohio, native holds a 50-point cushion over series win leader Sheldon Haudenschild for second, followed by Cap Henry and Kraig Kinser who round out the top-five, respectively.

Sheldon Haudenschild owns eight victories on the season, earning his most recent during the Pete Jacobs Memorial at Wayne County Speedway during Labor Day weekend worth $10,000. It was his second $10,000 top prize in 24 hours, also earning the Dirt Classic Ohio at Attica Raceway Park.

The Sprintacular at Eldora Speedway will launch officially with pit gates opening at 12:30 pm on Saturday afternoon, October 8. Spectator gates will swing loose at 1 pm, followed by hot laps at 4:30 pm and racing at 6. Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will join USAC for stellar Four Crown Nationals lineup

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. (September 20, 2016) - For the first time since 2007, the World’s Greatest Dirt Track will host four divisions during the Saturday night portion of the Four Crown Nationals program, adding more hype to a prestigious weekend of competition that will feature the best of the best with the wings, and without.

After the BeFour The Crowns Showdown on Friday night, September 23, featuring the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, the stars and cars of the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will have their turn at taming the highbanks of Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio; joining all three national divisions, Midget, Sprint Car and Champ Car, of the United States Auto Club (USAC) for the Four Crown Nationals on Saturday, September 24. The Arctic Cat All Stars will battle for $5,000 during their visit to The Big E, also earning full points toward the 2016 championship.

As an added bonus, if a competitor can sweep the entire Four Crown Nationals program on Saturday, September 24, a mega-bonus of $100,000 will be awarded. If a competitor can earn three out of four victories on Saturday, a $25,000 bonus will be awarded.

Including the show-up points appearance in mid-July for the Kings Royal weekend, the Four Crown Nationals will act as the third of four Arctic Cat All Star visits to Eldora Speedway in 2016. “America’s Series” made their first visit to Eldora Speedway on June 25 for the Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket finale. The “Wild Child” Jac Haudenschild claimed the right to stand on the coveted victory lane stage, earning $10,000 for his efforts. Defending World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz was the $50,000 Kings Royal winner on July 16.

With only three point events remaining on the 2016 championship schedule, the Four Crown Nationals will highlight as a very important step in the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions title chase. Less than 30 markers separate the top-two championship contenders entering their visit to Rossburg, Ohio, with defending series champion Dale Blaney on top of the current series standings.

Dubbed the “Low Rider,” Dale Blaney, who owns seven victories on the season, as well as a series leading 23 top-five finishes, holds a 22-point cushion over Alvada, Ohio’s Chad Kemenah entering Four Crown Nationals weekend. Kemenah, also a former series champion, owns one victory on the season, as well as 22 top-five finishes. Blaney owns victories at Attica Raceway Park (OH), Port Royal Speedway (PA), Butler Speedway (MI), Millstream Speedway (OH), Eriez Speedway (PA), and Grandview Speedway (PA), with Kemenah owning one victory at the Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway in Bedford, Pennsylvania.

Despite the competitive battle at the top of the championship standings, Wooster, Ohio’s Sheldon Haudenschild is also in a mathematical position to contend for the title; currently third in the title chase and only 56 points behind Dale Blaney. Haudenschild has earned eight victories thus far in 2016, which leads all Arctic Cat All Star competitors, as well as 17 top-five finishes.

Cap Henry and “Downtown” Danny Holtgraver, earning a combined total of 22 top-five feature finishes and three victories, all three of which acquired by Holtgraver, currently round out the top-five in the championship standings.

Four Crown Nationals festivities will officially begin with spectator gates opening at 12-noon on Saturday, September 24. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm, followed by racing at 8. Lance Dewease earns record fifth Tuscarora 50 win at Port Royal Speedway in dominating fashion

PORT ROYAL, PA. (September 10, 2016) - For an unprecedented fifth time, Lance Dewease is a Tuscarora 50 champion at the Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania. The Central Pennsylvania veteran, who now owns 100 career victories at the Port Royal “Speed Palace,” as well as 31 career victories against the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, earned more than $12,000 for his record setting main event win, crossing under the final checkers nearly eight seconds ahead of Stevie Smith and Dale Blaney. Dewease took command officially on lap 12 and never looked back, utilizing the bottom groove of the Port Royal Speedway half-mile for the majority of his laps led.  

“This feels great. It’s an honor to do it for these guys,” Dewease said on the Port Royal Speedway victory lane stage. “I think I may have won this race with five different car owners, too, so that makes it pretty special. I wanted this one so bad all year for these guys. We’ve been really good everywhere we’ve went. We had a really good race car last night, but had some mechanical problems that were nobody’s fault. I’m having a lot of fun driving for this race team. We are all really enjoying this limited schedule. We savor every one of these things.”

With a redraw setting the first five starting rows of the 50-lap, Tuscarora 50 feature finale, it was Greg Hodnett and T.J. Stutts setting the tone on the initial start. Hodnett jumped to the early advantage, leading Dale Blaney, T.J. Stutts, and Sheldon Haudenschild at the completion of lap one. Hodnett quickly opened up at the front of the field, extending his lead to a near-two second advantage by lap 10.

In the meantime, Lance Dewease, pilot of the Don Kreitz-owned/Sharman Builders/No. 69K, started to pick his way through the field. The Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, native drove forward from eighth on the grid, securing the third position by lap 10, second position by lap 11, and the top spot by lap 12, but not without help from Greg Hodnett. Hodnett, who was still controlling the point position during Dewease’s charge, slowed to a stop on lap 12, the result of mechanical woes. Dewease took advantage of Hodnett’s misfortune and quickly extended himself from his fellow front runners, chased to the lap 25 break by Stevie Smith, Dale Blaney, and Sheldon Haudenschild.

“That first 25 laps, I didn’t run that hard,” Dewease explained. “I knew we could go pretty soft on tires because I’m not that hard on tires. We came in during that red and my guys said my tires were still really good. So, I knew I could get going then. I just wanted to get inside the top-four before the break. I just found a line and was able to reel those guys in. You have to be there in the end in this deal. That’s what it’s all about. ”

The second segment of the Tuscarora 50 main event ignited with Lance Dewease returning to his place at the front of the field, followed by Stevie Smith and Dale Blaney. It would not take long for Dewease to once again open up his advantage, stretching to nearly four seconds by lap 30.

While Dewease dominated, a battle for second, third, and fourth would ensue involving Stevie Smith, Dale Blaney, and Cap Henry. Smith soon established himself in the runner-up position, followed by a lap-by-lap battle between Dale Blaney and Cap Henry. Despite all of their attempts to catch the familiar No.69K of Lance Dewease, nothing proved to be beneficial. Dewease ultimately scored the five-digit payday, followed by Stevie Smith and Dale Blaney to complete the podium.

“There are probably only a few of us here that have experience racing on the same set of tires for all 50 laps,” Lance Dewease said. “There is a little bit of a nact to it and a little bit of a patience to it. I’m happy to get it done for these guys.”

The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will close out the month of September with a visit to the World’s Greatest Dirt Track. The Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, will showcase Arctic Cat All Star competition on Saturday evening, September 24, during night two of the 35th Annual Four Crown Nationals. “America’s Series” will join all three national divisions of the United States Auto Club (USAC), Midget, Sprint, and Champ, during their visit to Eldora Speedway, the first time Eldora Speedway has hosted four divisions during the Saturday night portion of the Four Crown Nationals since 2007.
