Newcastle Jets boast a slim lead at the top of the Westfield W-League on goal difference thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Perth Glory.

A lone Jen Hoy penalty was enough to separate the sides in front of a 3,650-strong crowd, leaving Newcastle on six points after three rounds.

Sydney FC joined the Jets at the top thanks to a 2-1 win at Melbourne Victory.

Champions Melbourne City were relegated to third on goal difference, though they now have a game in hand on the pair after not playing over the weekend.

Canberra United edged a 1-0 win over old rivals Brisbane Roar on the back of Ashleigh Sykes’ lone effort.

Meanwhile, Western Sydney Wanderers collected their first win of the season with a 2-1 home triumph over Adelaide United. 

Next weekend’s action is highlighted by the Melbourne derby, with the match to be broadcast live on Fox Sports/ABC TV on Sunday.
