Nketiah could be among Arsenal exits this summer

There’s a concrete possibility for a number of players to leave Arsenal this summer. For example, Cedric Soares will be leaving on a free as his contract is expiring, that’s already decided. Others to watch could be someone like Eddie Nketiah – I think there’s a concrete possibility that he could move on, and he’s always had plenty of interest from clubs in the Premier League and the Bundesliga.

In the past, we’ve seen interest from West Ham, Crystal Palace and Borussia Monchengladbach, now let’s see if any teams will make a proposal this summer, but for sure it’s a possibility for Nketiah to make way as Arsenal are looking for a potential new addition up front, while they also have Gabriel Jesus, as well as Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard who can also play there.

Thomas Partey could be another name to watch. Arsenal are really happy with him when he’s on the pitch, but we know this has been a difficult season for him with injuries, and his contract is going to expire in summer 2025, so they will have to make a decision together. Nothing has been decided yet, but they will discuss the situation at the end of the season.

Going back to Arsenal’s striker plans, I’ve had fans asking me about Santiago Gimenez, who has been linked with a number of top clubs, but I’m not aware of any advanced discussions with Arsenal. There are many clubs interested in him after his fine form in the Eredivisie, but I’m not aware of any contacts with Arsenal.

Santiago Gimenez to Arsenal?

Still, with Arne Slot leaving Feyenoord to become Liverpool manager, there is a concrete chance for Gimenez to leave as well this summer. He wants to look for opportunities, and of course we know Arsenal are looking for attacking players, but I’m not aware of this being anything concrete just yet.

What I can say for Gimenez is that the asking price will be something like €40-45m, so let’s see how much Arsenal decide they want to invest in that position. They might decide to go for a bigger investment like Viktor Gyokeres, who is appreciated by Arsenal, or we’ll see if they prefer a cheaper option like Gimenez.

Salah’s Liverpool future and why it’s going to be Slot over Amorim

We’re continuing to see a lot of stories into the situation at Liverpool, and I wanted to start by providing an update of my current understanding of the Mohamed Salah situation, following reports yesterday that the feeling now is that he will not be leaving Liverpool this summer.

I’m told there will be talks closer to the end of the season between Salah and Liverpool to discuss that. Liverpool want to keep Salah and continue with him also under Arne Slot, that’s why we have strong rumours; it’s clear that they want to continue, Michael Edwards is big fan of the player.

With Slot, the latest is that Liverpool and Feyenoord have signed all documents for the Dutch manager’s imminent move to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. It will still take some time for the official club statement, planned between clubs for this week, but the deal is all done and sealed.

At one point, it looked like Ruben Amorim was the frontrunner for the Liverpool job, but it was never a done deal, never something agreed. Liverpool spoke to Amorim’s camp, they had contact as Liverpool were informed of release clauses and details of his contract at Sporting, but he was just one of the candidates, never a done deal, never a verbal agreement, never the chosen one. It was a conversation and there was interest, that’s it.

Still, Amorim would love to work in the Premier League. He’s still hoping for that solution, I’m told. Amorim will decide his future in the next weeks but he’s surely hoping for a job in the Premier League, despite Liverpool and West Ham talks collapsing.

Finally, as some fans have asked again about Trent Alexander-Arnold, I’m afraid I have no update in this moment – as I said weeks ago Real Madrid are following the situation but nothing else in terms of talks or contact so far. Let’s see what Liverpool will now do to keep a crucial player for them, a top player.

West Ham eyeing new manager candidates

I think there is a 90% chance to see David Moyes leaving West Ham at the end of the season. This is the feeling. Then we have to wait for the formal steps and the formal meetings at the end of the season. But the intention internally looks very clear – West Ham are looking at candidates, so I see David Moyes leaving the club at the end of the season.

In terms of Moyes’ replacement, they have multiple candidates at West Ham. We know they had a meeting with Amorim last Monday, but…there is no agreement at all it’s really far and it’s not going to happen. Then let’s see what’s going to happen with other candidates for example Hansi Flick could be a possibility…for example Paulo Fonseca, who is doing an excellent job at Lille.

We’ve also had rumours about Julen Lopetegui but his priority is AC Milan, so as long as he’s in the race to become new Milan manager Lopetegui will wait for that opportunity. so let’s see what’s going to happen there but for sure West Ham are already in a process to appoint a new manager and I think this is more than likely for the summer.

In other news…

Marcus Rashford – From what I heard, Manchester United have not informed Rashford of anything yet, despite some reports that he could be allowed to leave for a substantial proposal this summer. The internal discussion is about keeping Rashford and trusting him; only big, big proposals could change the situation. In my opinion, a player like Rashford is always important especially in a new project like Man United’s one.

Xavi Simons – Despite links with Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain will decide on Xavi Simons’ future at the end of the season, conversations will take place in the next weeks. Nothing is concrete at this stage, I’m told; Leipzig told PSG that they’d love to keep Xavi on loan for one more year, but it’s up to PSG now and I’m told the player will also be involved in the decision.

Leroy Sane – The new manager of Bayern could be key for Leroy Sane’s future. At the moment they had a discussion to present him the project, but still not a financial proposal because they want to wait for the new manager to tell the player what’s going to be the plan with him. Ralf Rangnick is the favourite to become the new manager, and Sane is basically waiting to see what happens with that, and it’s the same with Joshua Kimmich.

Exclusive: West Ham ready to hold talks with David Moyes replacement in May

West Ham United are set to part ways with David Moyes at the end of the season and the Premier League club are ready to hold talks with Lille’s Paulo Fonseca over the soon-to-be vacant role in May.

The Scottish coach’s contract at the London Stadium expires this summer and the Hammers have been keeping an eye on the manager market.

Fonseca is a name that the board at the London club like and sources have told CaughtOffside that West Ham hope to convince the Portuguese coach to make the move to London by offering him a very good contract.

The 51-year-old dreams about managing a Premier League team and he’s been close in the past when both Tottenham and Newcastle showed interest.

Several other clubs are monitoring Fonseca’s situation ahead of the 2024/25 campaign as the Portuguese manager is also a free agent. However, he is fully focused on ending the campaign as strong as possible with Lille.

West Ham face tough competition to land Paulo Fonseca

Lille want Fonseca to continue with them next season and are pushing for their coach to remain in France beyond the summer.

Should they fail, West Ham face strong competition from top European clubs such as Marseille and AC Milan. The Ligue 1 outfit’s board of directors have admired Fonseca for a long time; while the 51-year-old is well placed on AC Milan’s shortlist.

Next month will be crucial in determining where Fonseca will coach next season with West Ham hoping to be the club to convince him to join their project.

Key factor regarding Chelsea owners could see Mauricio Pochettino sacked

01/05/2024, England, Multi Sports, English Sports Publications, Article # 31753820

Mauricio Pochettino will face an uphill task to keep his job if the Chelsea owners can source a replacement over the coming weeks as the Argentine’s future hangs in the balance.

According to Football Insider, the former Tottenham coach is on trial at Chelsea until the end of the season as the campaign at Stamford Bridge has been a disaster under his watch.

The Blues currently sit ninth in the Premier League and are set to end the season trophyless having failed to win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

The report says that Pochettino has no plans to leave Chelsea at the end of the campaign but the London club’s owners are doing their due diligence on potential replacements for the 52-year-old as they are unlikely to be happy with how the season has gone so far.

Should they find a suitable replacement, the Argentine coach faces an uphill battle to keep his job as a coach such as Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim could be very attractive to the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge, with the West London outfit denying meeting the Portuguese coach recently.

Chelsea dressing room want Mauricio Pochettino to stay

The Standard reported last week that Chelsea will review Pochettino’s position during the summer, when the Argentine will be involved in a two-way discussion and will push for changes at Stamford Bridge.

One thing going for the Chelsea boss is the fact that his players want him to stay as they believe he has shielded them from criticism and has worked to foster team spirit in a group of new players from different countries.

Starting again with a new coach would cause further disruption and this factor could buy the former Tottenham boss some more time to get his ideas across at Stamford Bridge.

Exclusive: Arsenal wonderkid has transfer interest from Dortmund & Roma after incredible form, says

01/05/2024, England, Multi Sports, English Sports Publications, Article # 31753821

Arsenal wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin has interest from Borussia Dortmund and Roma after his phenomenal scoring record at youth level this season.

That’s according to transfer news expert Ben Jacobs as he spoke exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, explaining that the Gunners remain calm about the 16-year-old striker’s situation.

Obi-Martin boats a sensational scoring record in recent times, having scored 28 goals in total this season, including seven goals in one game recently for Arsenal’s Under-18s.

This has unsurprisingly led to interest from elsewhere, and Jacobs admits it could be a bit of a concern for Arsenal as the young forward has joined new agents, and doesn’t turn 17 until November, potentially paving the way for him to leave before the club can tie him down to a professional contract.

Obi-Martin transfer: Arsenal remain confident of keeping wonderkid striker, says Jacobs

Chido Obi-Martin of Arsenal

For now, it seems Arsenal fans can remain relatively relaxed about this, as Jacobs seems to think it would be a big surprise for the Danish teenager to leave north London.

“Arsenal are in a great position with 16-year-old talent Chido Obi-Martin,” Jacobs said.

“Obi-Martin scored 10 goals this season against Liverpool in an Under-16s game, and last weekend got seven goals against Norwich City for Arsenal’s Under-18s. He has 28 goals this campaign.

“Obi-Martin has signed with Elite Project Group, who also look after Bukayo Saka.

“Arsenal have to wait until Obi-Martin turns 17 in November before they can offer him a professional contract. That, coupled with a new agency, does slightly open the door to suitors, including Borussia Dortmund and Roma.

“But Arsenal are calm about the situation, and Obi-Martin has seen first hand the pathways for young players under Mikel Arteta. It will be really surprising if Obi Martin looks elsewhere despite the growing volume of interest.”

Exclusive: Raheem Sterling exit talk wide of the mark but another Chelsea star could make Saudi tran

01/05/2024, England, Multi Sports, English Sports Publications, Article # 31753822

Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling is not currently looking likely to seal a summer transfer window move to a club in the Saudi Pro League, according to transfer news expert Ben Jacobs.

The England international has struggled for form of late, and no longer looks guaranteed a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues side, but it seems the player himself is settled in London and not looking to leave this summer.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column, Jacobs explained his latest understanding of the situation, making it clear that any talk of Sterling heading to Saudi Arabia looked wide of the mark for the moment.

One player who could be more likely to leave Chelsea for a Saudi club, however, is loaned-out Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku.

Romelu Lukaku in action for Roma

According to Jacobs, there could be fresh interest in the 30-year-old, who previously rejected the chance to move to Saudi, so there could be a good chance for CFC to get this unwanted player off their books after two loan spells at Inter Milan and Roma.

Sterling staying but Lukaku could leave Chelsea for Saudi

“Sterling remains committed to Chelsea, and is settled in London. But as a high earner at the club, it’s natural there will be speculation about a summer exit,” Jacobs said.

“Unless Sterling has a major U-turn, he’s going to resist an exit and try to prove any critics wrong. It hasn’t been an easy spell for him at Chelsea, but staying fit and having a run in the side could yet change all that.

“Links with Saudi, and Al-Hilal specifically, are wide of the mark according to my information. Sterling had a very informal approach from Saudi in summer 2023, but since then there has been no contact.

“Chelsea are naturally open to doing more business with Saudi, and away from Sterling, they will gladly sell Romelu Lukaku to a Saudi Pro League club.

“Al-Hilal had a €45m offer accepted last summer but Lukaku wanted to stay in Italy. Al-Hilal now have other targets, but keep an eye on both Al-Shabab and soon-to-be promoted Al-Qadsiyah.”
