Rods Cruise The Queenscliff Strip.
By Mark Humphrey
Queenscliff, Vic/Aus. 3rd February 2015. Hot Rods from far and wide converged on the seaside resort of Queenscliff last weekend to take part in the annual Geelong Street Rodders Queenscliff Rod Run. Now in its 12 year, the Queenscliff Rod Run has grown quite considerably from its beginnings at the Queenscliff Army Barracks with an estimated 550 plus exquisite hot-rods and muscle cars rolling in for the event. Having outgrown the barracks the show has now taken over Queenscliff’s Princess Park situated close to the pristine shore line of Queenscliff and is an ideal setting for the cruise cool event which features local site seeing and tourism trips to many of the regions attractions, a dedicated Saturday night time cruise through the streets of Queenscliff culminating with the famous show n shine display at Princess Park on the Sunday.Awesome display of custom cars cruising the strip
Victoria threw up its fickle weather throughout the event resembling more of a winter event than one jam packed in the middle of summer. Even with the coolish weather the Saturday night cruise was a fabulous success with several thousand spectators and drivers alike rolling into the main street of Queenscliff to witness what is becoming an integral part of the 3 day event.
Cool caddies, buckets and street machines cruised the spectator lined main drag for hours swapping drivers and passengers along the way. A couple of pick-ups took turns in loading up with kids for a cruise around the block while others simply cruised the atmosphere that was the night cruise.Plenty of street machines out and about
Car owners beamed huge smiles as they showed off their pride and joys to the gathered public and whilst the scene was dominated by male drivers there was no shortage of females at the wheel as they added to the spectacle. Indeed both the hot rodding and the street car scenes are witnessing a huge growth in female participation with many girls purchasing their own rides. With the friendly family type atmosphere of the festival and its location, it is no wonder the event has grown into one of the country’s ultimate car shows with no sign of slowing down.Plenty of girls cruising the night air as well making this truely an event for all-comers
Keep an eye out for 2016 dates and especially the Saturday Night Cruise. For me the “night cruise” was the highlight of the event with scenes resembling the 60’s. For more details on the 2016 event go to.

Australia Day Cruise 2015 |
The HK Monaro: Classic Aussie Muscle.
By Mark Humphrey
Geelong, Vic/Aus. 30th January 2015. Street cars from across the region descended on the Cotton-On carpark for Geelong’s annual Australia Day Cruise which takes in the picturesque Bellarine Peninsula finishing at the bayside destination of St. Leonards. Car numbers were estimated somewhere between 400 to 500 with plenty starting their journey from different destinations making this day an extraordinary motoring day on the Geelong calendar. The popularity of the cruise has seen many cars mostly muscle venture down the highway from Melbourne to join in what has been a growing event for the past 5 years. Having once occupied the St Helens boat ramp carpark, the cruise has just about out grown the massive Cotton On carpark and it won’t be long before an even bigger venue will be required to accommodate the large number of cruisers.Mel who was decked out in her cruiser gear looked the part in front of her man's chevy pick-up.
One could be expected to think that the quality of street car may drop off with the growing numbers but that couldn’t be further from the truth. There was plenty of street muscle mixed in with iconic Aussie muscle cars to compliment the fine examples of restored Australian motoring that gathered in the car park. For me personally the day was a greater spectacle than the Victorian Hot Rod show held over the same weekend at the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne. The local car clubs were well represented throughout the gathering with the Cotton-On Foundation the nominated beneficiary of the gold coin entrance donation.
The motoring action continues in Geelong this weekend with Street Rods rolling in from across the state and also interstate to take part in the Geelong Street Rodders 2015 Queenscliff Rod Run. With less than 2 months to go until the Queenscliff Hot Rod show members were taking in the relaxed night of cruising leading up to the Xmas break.
