Cruisers Come Out To Support Jasper

Rowville, Vic/Aus. 24th April 2015. Car lovers from across Melbourne came out in numbers last weekend to share in the celebrations of the Piston Steel Shakedown’s Fundraiser For Jasper event. With weather conditions looking ominous at day-break, the thought of a successful fundraising day looked a touch bleak. The fundraiser was a benefit for a little guy called Jasper who carries a number of debilitating illnesses making him wheelchair bound and in constant need of support. Parents Scotty and Mandi were mingling in with the Melburnians who had ventured out to check out some of the regions finest examples of automotive excellence on display as well as static merchant stalls, food vendors, supporter outlets and of course some good ol rocking music.
After several location changes The Stamford Hotel opened up their doors and carpark to house the benefit for Jasper with funds going towards a new passenger van complete with ramp access. Live music from Rumblin' Wolf echoed out from the Stamford while a couple of Transformers made an appearance in the carpark much to the delight of Jasper and friends. As the morning went on the numbers of spectators had risen alongside the improvement in weather conditions. In the end the day turned out perfect with any chance of rain dissipating by mid-morning.
The generosity of the patrons was reflected in the thankyou issued by Jasper’s father Scott Woodbridge as listed below.
““For those that contributed on the day and to all those who donated through his fund page, we thank you for your generosity and kindness in helping raise some much needed funds for our son Jasper to go towards a new van with ramp access. The total for the charity event at the Stamford Hotel raised $3222, ●$250● kindly donated incorporated from Shannons Insurance on the day. With a further $70 through his Facebook fund page "Little Jasper needs a Miracle Part 2". If you could not make it there and still wish to make a donation please do so via his page fund. It was a grand effort by all concerned and especially Piston Steel Shakedown who jumped on board to organise the event. Lots of images from the event are available from the photographers listed above with Grantlyy Photography going a step further by asking photo purchasers to nominate how much they are prepared to pay for their photo with the entire proceeds being passed onto the Jasper fund.

Piston Steel Muscle Rolls Out For Charity.

Hot Rodders from across Melbourne descended on the Masters Home Improvement Knox car park to support the Piston Steel Shakedown charity car show event and their nominated charities the Ronald McDonald McHappy Day and Animal Aid.
In a classic display of auto muscle which filled a good part of the Master’s car park, I caught up with one of the event’s organisers in Bruce and started by asking about the history of the club, “yeah thanks for that. Well we have been going for just over 12 months and run a lot of car cruise events with the occasional car show thrown in” he said. Bruce added “This has been by far our biggest and most successful event to date with over 500 cars on show at one stage or another throughout the day. It has been a great turnout today of cars and fantastic people who have come to support our day. Masters have been wonderful in allowing us to take up so much of their car park and Shannons Insurance has gone beyond the call of duty in assisting us with the event”.

There is no doubt that an event like this one needs support not only from auto enthusiasts but also local businesses like Masters Home Improvements and Shannons Insurance. I caught up with Masters Operations Manager Kane to get a feel for the companies support behind the Piston Steel Shakedown event, “we at Masters love to get involved with the community and what better way to do it than support an organisation that is dedicated to helping nominated charities” he said. Kane went on to say “we have been out here at Knox for about 2 years and have enjoyed giving the public an alternative shopping option” he said. Fortunately for car clubs like the Piston Steel Shakedown there are organisations like Masters who are willing to go that extra tenth to support their events. With an influx of vehicles on the day higher than expected, Masters had no hesitation in agreeing to Bruce’s request for additional car space.

The event was well supported by the public which was evident by the amount of money raised for the nominated charities. The club proudly posted after the event that $1500 had been raised for the McHappy Day charity and a further $500 for Animal Aid. Animal Aid is a not for profit animal rescue centre based in Coldstream that tends to the needs of animals that are not as fortunate as others.

Everywhere you looked there was a story to be told about the origins and build of some highly prized custom and muscle cars. I bumped in to the owner of a neat 65 Mustang in Janine from Belgrave who had a familiar story to tell. I asked Janine about the car, “Well I’ve had it for about 15 months and just love it. It’s my first car ever that I have owned and I have always loved and wanted one of these for as long as I can remember” she said. Janine went on to say “Life is too short to just sit around, you need to do the things that excite you and driving this car is one of them” she said with a big smile. History on the car is limited somewhat but Janine knows the car was delivered into Australia around May of 2013 for a guy who bought it for his wife. Luckily for Janine she didn’t like it and when it came on the market Janine quickly snapped it up. Still in the left hand drive version I asked Janine how she went with it being left hand drive “I struggled at first especially entering the freeway but it’s ok now as I have got used to it. If I have got someone in the car it is a lot easier to navigate around the streets and usually I have a friend with me. I just love it” she laughed. Janine likes to get out most weekends in the pony and just go cruising.

With such a spectacular display of cars on hand it was hard to pick the show stopper. Piston Steel Shakedown made plenty of presentations to proud car owners and went with a HQ 4-door GTS as the top car.

Whatever direction you looked in there was a candidate for best car such was the standard of the show. Top car/top muscle for me was an awesome Chevy Nova that happened to cruise into the car park well after the presentations had been made. A spectacular car that just topped off an awesome event.
