Speedway Thunder this Saturday Night @ Nyora Raceway.
Speedway Thunder this Saturday Night @ Nyora Raceway.
Wingless Sprints, Mini Sprints and the SDAV Hot Rods will provide plenty of open wheel action alongside the Open Sedans and 1200cc Juniors this Saturday night at Gippslands Nyora Raceway.
The Wingless Sprints (pictured below) will be the dominant division as they take in round 3 of the Velocita Eastern Challenge Series with Travis Millar, Tony Moule and Wayne Hurford set to take on Clyde youngster Todd Hobson and Cranbourne’s Warwick Taylor amongst others.
The Mini Sprints will be fighting for the prestigious Geoff Moule Memorial where Dave May and Owen Bulman will continue their season long battle with Matt Parson making a welcome return to Nyora after winning last years’ event.
As part of their 50th anniversary celebrations the SDAV Hot Rods will bring their own brand of Thunder Down Under V8 Action where Maryknoll’s newly crowned State Champion Dean West will continue to fight with Shannon Meakins, Stan Marco and others.
19 year old Shona Bent was comprehensively beaten at the last meeting by some superior machinery and will be looking for redemption with a more even field of competitors including Wayne Ramsdale as here major opposition.
Donald Young has had the run in the junior sedans here of late as he finishes off his 1200cc career but this time he will have to face current National Champion Todd Atkins, Ayden bellman, Jack Ramsdale and Zoe Young.
Don’t forget to check us out at our all new website at www.nyoraraceway.com.au or on facebook.
Nyora Raceway is located on Grundy Avenue, Nyora, Gippsland.

Yarra Valley Speedway Kart Club
For the first time this year YVSKC head to the Gippsland bullring, Nyora Raceway. Nyora's committee have been putting in the hard yards with track work and improvements to the surface to help our division out with a smooth track, with a few drivers keen to try out the new surface. Lewis Williams in the #47 machine is showing some consistency after making the move to dirt karting. A couple of local boys ready to turn a wheel at their local track are brothers Brodie & Seb Ardley, with their newly purchased BRK's. These two are new to karts but are flexing their muscles and showing some great results. Again good nominations for standard and mods, Andrew Bristow running the #88 standard will have his hands full with both his young boys Charlie and Koby racing in our sub junior class. These two always have a great time, and are seen in the pits with cheeky smiles on their faces. Young Tyson Martin celebrated his 16th birthday this week, and will be stepping up the senior class in the #14 standard. He will gain valuable laps preparing for the upcoming Victorian Title to be held on March 12th at Avalon. YVSKC would like to thank our sponsors for their support of the club. 'Boost to drive' will be sponsoring the juniors, Sky's the limit Motorsport will be sponsoring our Sub Juniors, and Soothing Body Massage the ladies class. We would like to wish our members travelling to the NSW title this weekend the best of luck. Race hard and travel safe.

December 10 at 11:27am · Melbourne ·
The Mainline DynoLog Dynamometers All Star Series regrettably has to announce the CANCELLATION of RD6 at Wahgunyah Speedway and RD7 at NYORA RACEWAY
“This decision had certainly not been an easy one to make but in the interest of both the venues and the series itself we cannot and will not put on a below average race meeting. Christmas has affected both of these shows for our travelling teams. Nyora have been supportive of us since our first season and Wahgunyah were excited to have their first ever sprintcar show. We have had to disappoint both tracks by cancelling but hopefully by doing this early we have given them time to sort out other divisions for their night.” Promoter Mandy Searle tells us. “I would like to thank those teams that had locked in to support us. I would also like to confirm that our End of Season Championship point fund and prizes will not be affected and remain the same as announced at the start of the season thanks to our awesome sponsors - this includes the Maxim Chassis for the Series winner.”

Media Release 29 June 2015
Galley and Laidlaw totally enthral Nyora Speedway crowd with stunning 50 lap sedan display in season finale.
The Bob Hickson Memorial/Southern 2000 season ending sedan stoush at Nyora raceway became the race of the season with 48 laps of brilliant speedway action between ultimate winner Ty Galley and the extremely unlucky Steve Laidlaw as the young tyro and the nationally crowned veteran put on a thrilling display reminding everybody just why we love dirt track speedway racing.
For 48 of the 50 lap final event Laidlaw and Galley fought it out tooth and nail while slicing through extremely heavy lapped traffic with both drivers leading at various stages only for Laidlaw to suffer a mechanical malady just two laps short of taking the chequered flag in the memorable memorial event.
All other runners were virtually forgotten by mid race distance despite the close attention in the early going of pole-sitter Leigh Bourke, Brenden Miller, Matt Nelson, and Wayne Ramsdale.
Despite almost inverting his Commodore late in the going Brenden Miller grabbed 2nd after the demise of Laidlaw, with some compensation for the Laidlaw family as Scott Laidlaw completing the podium ahead of Wayne Ramsdale and Wayne Hurford.
On track, immediately after the finish of the memorial event Galley completed a lap of honour in the clubs ute having backed his overheating machine into the turn 3 wall on the cool down lap and it was clear from his comments just how much it meant to him to battle the long term family friend for the win.
“It was an absolute joy to race against Steve (Laidlaw) like that, he is one of the absolute best there is and it was a real shame that he fell out of the race there right at the end,” said Galley after completing his victory lap on foot. “We made it one of our season goals to run this 50 lapper and we’ll take the win but I can’t tell you how good that race was and how good it was to race so close and hard with a man I respect so much.”
For his part despite the crushing finish after such a strong showing Laidlaw was magnanimous in his praise for Galley and the emotion in his voice reflected real joy and pleasure for ‘the kids’ win rather than anger and frustration at what could have been for himself.
The season ending Unlimited Sedan action kicked off with Nelson beating Galley to the opening heat win and then Lucas Conder won the second heat after Daniel Stewart pulled in while leading comfortably.
Steve Laidlaw won the third heat from Miller and Bourke stormed to the win in heat 4 from the last starting position.
Veteran Des Birkin then thrilled the crowd when he rolled in the fifth heat after contact with Scott Laidlaw. The action continued in this heat when Allen Perkins and Sam Williams slammed the wall together and Perkins was black flagged. The heat was declared early with Galley getting the win ahead of Nelson.
Wayne Ramsdale then won the next heat from Conder as a number of other drivers failed to finish.
Miller then beat Steve Laidlaw to the chequers by a very narrow margin in the penultimate heat and Bourke won the final heat after Travis Ramsdale hit the back straight wall curtailing the heat early.
In the non-qualifiers event drivers had the option to take the money or qualify onto the back of the main event and it was Hurford who won from Travis Ramsdale, veteran Ray Gould, Kellie Atkins, Corey Horter and Jacob Blencowe. Will Van der Ark was the race’s first retirement when he tipped the Miles Motorsport entry upside down on the opening lap.
23 cars started the 50 lap Bob Hickson Memorial/Southern 2000 with local veteran Gould being the only driver in the field who had actually raced against the races’ namesake.
The huge field battled through the opening two corners before Peter Cox hit the wall in turn three forcing a complete restart. Following this the field successfully completed the first lap with Steve Laidlaw leading before Darren Skilton spun.
On the restart Galley jumped to 2nd place commencing the almost race long battle with Steve Laidlaw.
For the first 14 laps the leading quintet ran in very close company until Michael Suckling retired and Skilton spun again.
By now Steve Laidlaw was leading from Galley, Miller, Nelson, Bourke and Wayne Ramsdale who’d worked his way through the pack. The leaders’ nephew Scott had just been lapped but the caution saved him from going a lap down which would prove pivotal later.
All eyes were on the top six cars at the restart as Steve Laidlaw again led Galley and the battle pack with Wayne Ramsdale on the move until lap 18 when Travis Ramsdale slowed and a caution was thrown.
Steve Laidlaw again led through to the next caution but on the restart Galley made the move that put him into the lead from Laidlaw, Miller and Wayne Ramsdale.
Through the half way point Galley led with huge pressure from Laidlaw behind and a large gaggle of lapped cars ahead. Laidlaw dived up the inside as Galley went the outside route and they raced four wide up the front straight with lapped traffic on the narrow Gippsland track.
Steve Laidlaw led the next few laps until Jeff Blencowe fenced his Commodore.
Wayne Ramsdale had been the coming man and was now in third and looking likely to be the only other driver who could possibly challenge the lead duo but that all turned sour when he spun on lap 35 and was hit hard by Bourke.
Ramsdale was thought to be the only other car still on the lead lap other than the lead trio but Scott Laidlaw was actually the last car still on the lead lap and now Ramsdale had been sent to the rear of the field putting Scott up to 4th. Could Ramsdale continue his form and work back through the pack over the final 16 laps?
For the next 14 laps Steve Laidlaw repelled Galleys every move as Miller remained third just off the pace until he had a huge moment in turn 1 when the car tried its best to turn itself upside down. The infield photographers looked on stunned as they all got a great view of the underside of Millers machine.
“It got a bit of height and was up there for a while,” was all the laconic youngster had to say about it later.
Miller fashioned a great recovery to bring the car back to earth without hitting the wall but lost a lot of ground in the process leaving everyone to focus on the lead pair whose battle raged on unabated until Steve Laidlaw’s car slowed mid-way through turn three on lap 48 and pulled infield allowing Galley to breathe a little as he completed the final two laps of what had been a totally enthralling race.
Miller took over second place and Scott Laidlaw quietly grabbed the final podium from Ramsdale, Hurford, Andrew Miles, Gould, Brad Hill and Shane Simpson to conclude a totally enthralling last race of the season.
Great sportsmanship was shown by both Galley and Laidlaw post-race in their on-air comments and that sportsmanship was also shown in the VSC Junior sedans when Ally Morrison unselfishly gave up her car in a heat race so that Shaniiq Rowan could have a drive.
Shaniiq and her sister Kiarah had both travelled from Swan Hill to race but when Shaniiq’s car failed on the dummy grid she was left without a drive. Step in the Morrison team who offered Ally’s car so that at least Shaniiq got one race.
“She (Ally) looked at it and thought how bad would Shaniiq feel after travelling all the way from Swan Hill and seeing her sister race and not get to drive herself, so she offered her a heat race in her own car,” explained a magnanimous father Dale Morrison.
In the main event it was Ally Morrison getting the win from Kiarah Rowan and Ally’s own sister Holly Strickland who was making her debut.
The only heat not won by Morrison was won by Kiarah Rowan when Morrison had given up her car.
The 120occ Juniors saw Current Aussie Champion Brock Atkins in the borrowed car of Seth Bent and he quickly adapted to the track and the car winning the opening heat before Caleb Lincoln won the second heat by a narrow margin and then took the last heat as well by a bigger margin.
In the final Lincoln upset the national champ by taking the win after Atkins led early but couldn’t maintain the pace and finishing second just ahead of his younger brother Todd Atkin who was followed by Jack Ramsdale, Seth Bent, Zoe Young, Rhi Campton and Chloe Sheerman.
The other class in action was the Ladies races which saw Amanda Burrows take the win from Sarah Price and Tegan Bullard. Burrows and Bullard had shared the earlier heat wins.
The Nyora Speedway club would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all officials, club members, sponsors drivers, teams and fans for their support throughout the 2014/15 season and look forward to seeing you all again as part of the planned action packed 2015/16 season.

Media Release
Big Money + Big Field = Big Season Finale @ Nyora - Sunday.
A big end-of-season send-off is scheduled for this Sunday (28th June) at Nyora Raceway with a huge field of over 40 of the best sedan competitors entered for the annual season concluding Southern 2000 Bob Hickson Memorial for Unlimited Sedans alone.
A jam packed field that includes former Australian Champions and prolific race winners will fight it out over 50 physically draining laps around the Gippsland Speedbowl to see who can take the $1,000 first prize from a mixed bag of sedan classes all melded into one Unlimited Sedan division.
As if that’s not enough the SSA Juniors will also be in action featuring the Nyora debut of current Australian Champion Brock Atkins.
Another group of young guns will be contesting the VSC Junior events and the ladies will also have a blast in the women’s sedan events.
Sadly last year’s event was cancelled at the last hour due to weather after the club had put in a herculean effort to save the event. Hopefully there will be no repeat of these issues this year around and the forecast so far is extremely promising.
Heading the local list of favorite families will be the Bent clan with dad Simon set to make a return to the track that he once dominated before stepping aside for his daughter Shona who has excelled in the division. This will be the first opportunity for father and daughter to fight it out for glory at their home track. Joining the family fun will be the youngest member of the family Seth Bent who will tackle the SSA Junior sedans. Now if we could just find a car for mum that would be a family first with all members in action on one day.
Stiff opposition is expected from Travis and Wayne Ramsdale, Matt and Darren Nelson, Stephen and Scott Laidlaw, Ty Galley, Jaedn Alberni, Brendan Miller, the Blencowe, Suckling, Angus, Rowan and the Miles families to name just a few.
While mum Kellie Atkins will be competing in the Unlimited Sedans, eldest son and current Aussie Champion Brock Atkins will saddle up in the SSA Juniors against his brother Todd and also against Seth Bent the brother of his Girlfriend Shona Bent. Jack Ramsdale will be out to claim the scalp of the national champ as will Zoe Young, Rhi Campton and Chloe Sheerman.
In the VSC Junior sedans Mikey Hardy will be the odd man out, literally, as he will competing against the girl power of Ally Morrison, Holly Strickland, Kiarah and Shani Rowan.
To complete the action will be the Ladies Sedan events where Amanda Burrows will be up against Tegan Bullard, Sonia Nelson, Sarah Price and Bridgette Morgan. This is sure to be one cat fight not to be missed.
This is the last meeting of the Nyora season and is therefore the last opportunity to see great old school speedway racing at the states most exciting speedway venue. Don’t miss it.
On track action kicks off at 11:00am.
Don’t forget to check us out at our all new website at or check for updates on facebook.
