THE MOON RISES AT ALEXANDRA AS BENNY BECOMES VICTORIA ONE

Ben Moon celebrates his win in the Victorian Sports Sedan division

The Victorian Sports Sedan title was the main act on Saturday the 14th of March at Alexandra 

Speedway Club with around thirty competitors vying for the right to sign write their race car with the 

number one for the next twelve months & at the end of a gruelling thirty lap race it would be last 

season’s Victoria # 3 driver Ben Moon who would come up trumps when he defeated Luke Fallon & 

Brendan Miller to become the new state champion.NEW VICTORIAN SPORTS SEDAN TITLE WINNER BEN MOON

On the same race program the Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association battled for the Ovens & Murray 

Zone title for their division with Thomas Bowers from Wodonga making it two wins from two starts 

in recent weeks when he defeated Scott Callendar & Justin Brockley.

In the big Sports Sedan title race Damien Miller topped the qualifying results with the defending 

champion Matt Nelson alongside him then Brendan Miller, Rahmon Rivero, Moon & Fallon making 

up the top six.

The race didn’t go according to plan for a number of drivers with a spin to Damien Miller whilst 

leading on lap eight seeing his car being re-directed to the rear of the field to restart, not before 

Rivero through the dust unable to see spat up by drivers driving under the pole line slammed into 

Miller putting himself out of the race. Daniel Unternahrer hit concrete on lap eleven to be 

eliminated whilst Nelson thought he might have done a gearbox and pulled out of the race whilst 

leading soon after.

Fallon held the lead briefly, Moon assumed the lead from him & Damien Miller came forward from 

last on lap eight to be in the top five again.

Moon went on to record his second Victorian Sports Sedan title victory from Fallon, Brendan Miller, 

Damien Miller & Andrew Jordan who took over fifth place from Tim McPherson on a last gasp run on 

lap thirty. Other finishers after McPherson who was sixth include, Aaron Marshall, Sam Williams, 

Matt Chiminello, Dale Smith & James Powell all on the lead lap.

Heat race victories went the way of Damien Miller, Nelson, Unternahrer, Brendan Miller, Damien 

Miller again, Nelson again, Damien Miller a third time, Rivero & Alan Kruger.

The North Eastern Victoria & Riverina New South Wales based Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association 

competed for the Ovens & Murray Zone title on the weekend also. Scott Callendar, Dave Walton & 

Thomas Bowers shared the three heat wins between them before competing for the title.

Bowers & Callendar started from the front row with Walton & Justin Brockley on the second row. 

Walton spun out of contention early in the race and was left chasing everybody. Bowers led from the 

very first lap of the final with Callendar & Brockley in the other podium spots. Rob Webster & Steve 

McDonald had their own battle for fourth going on whilst laps ran out for Walton at the tail of the 

field as Bowers took the win from Callendar, Brockley, Webster, McDonald & Walton. TOMMY BOWERS WINNER OF THE GOULBURN OVENS SEDAN OVENS & MURRAY ZONE TITLE WINNER

All other divisions on race night were unable to get past the second round of heat races due to the 

threat of rain shuffling events around in order to complete the titles.

Alexandra Speedway returns on March the 28th for the Victorian Ladies Standard Saloon title & all 

club divisions.
