ARU CONGRATULATES BRISBANE CITY FOR BUILDCORP NRC WIN |
The Australian Rugby Union extended its congratulations to McInnes Wilson Lawyers Brisbane City for their 37-26 win over Property Club Perth Spirit at Ballymore Stadium yesterday, taking out the inaugural Buildcorp National Rugby Championship.
Brisbane City notched five tries to four to seal the win in front of the 7,889-strong home crowd.
Throughout the season, Brisbane City displayed their dominance, winning six of eight encounters during the first-ever Buildcorp NRC season, finishing third on the ladder, just one point behind the CSU NSW Country Eagles.
Last night’s Final was the second time this year that the two teams have met, after Brisbane City narrowly defeated Perth Spirit in Round Two (26-21) at the University of WA, Perth.
Australian Rugby Union CEO Bill Pulver was delighted with the effort from both teams, and congratulated Brisbane City for their solid performance.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate McInnes Wilson Lawyers Brisbane City on winning the inaugural Buildcorp National Rugby Championship,” said Pulver.
“Brisbane City’s victory caps off a strong season which saw Queensland Rugby fans embrace the new competition.
“I would also like to commend Property Club Perth Spirit on their gallant efforts. After an amazing win over competition leaders Melbourne Rising in the Semi-Final, the Spirit proved they were worthy contenders for the title.
“The Buildcorp NRC has been a great success, with more than 150 non-contracted players testing their skills against Super Rugby and Wallabies players.
“After a successful debut year for the Buildcorp NRC, I look forward to seeing the competition grow in the coming seasons,” Pulver said.
Both Brisbane City and Perth Spirit truly embraced the development objectives of the Buildcorp NRC, with 46 non-contracted club players taking to the field for Queensland sides, and 25 Perth-based players who are currently outside of the Western Force senior squad also exposed to the competition.
