WAG Northern Regionals

Sunday 15^th September saw 33 eager State and National Level 1 WAG gymnasts converge on PCYC Launceston to compete in the WAG Northern Regionals. Although the air was a little chilly, the enthusiasm radiating from the girls was contagious and the capacity crowd cheered them on as they rotated through the apparatus – floor, beam, bars and vault.Gymnasts from Devonport Gymnastics Club, Riverside Gymnastics Club, Zodiacs Gymnastics Club and PCYC Launceston Gymnastics Club competed in State Level 1-3 and National Level 1 & 3 events, to determine individual placings in all apparatus and overall. The competition also included a team event in each level, with 6 gymnasts per team, and the top 3 overall gymnasts scores counting towards the Overall Champion Team.

The day continued with 30 State Level 2s competing for individual and team titles. Once again strong numbers in this event means that Gymnastics is alive and kicking in the North of the State!

The final session of the day included the State Level 3 and National Level 3 gymnasts. 20 girls twisted, twirled, jumped and cartwheeled their way through routines for individual and team medals as well as a chance to grade the level they were competing.

The day’s competition was also a lead up to the Regional Challenge and a chance to be selected as part of the Northern Team to compete against the South of the State on Sunday 17^th November at PCYC Launceston. Teams will compete in Level 1 – 3 both State and National.
