VICTORIAN SPORTS SEDAN STATE SERIES KICKS OFF WITH MILLER & COLLINS WINNERS
VICTORIAN SPORTS SEDAN STATE SERIES KICKS OFF WITH MILLER & COLLINS WINNERS
Matt Ridd finished in the top 3 of both events.
The Australia Day Long weekend two day show at Wahgunyah Speedway & Mount Beauty Speedway
to kick off the Victorian Sport Sedan State Series ended with two feature race winners & a lead in the
series to Rhys Collins before they head to round three at Wangaratta Speedway this Saturday night
the 31st of January.
Brendan Miller took the win at Wahgunyah on Saturday night whilst, Collins won at Mount Beauty
on the Sunday.
Heat one at Wahgunyah was led across the line on lap one by Albury racer Simon Hill from Ricky
O’Meara & Rhys Collins and a fast moving Rahmon Rivero who moved forward from seventh place
from the start line. Hill maintained his lead for the first five laps with Rivero on his tail in second
from lap two and Jacob Mills coming forward from his eleventh place start to second by lap five.
Mills going for a pass into the lead off turn two on lap six broke a bracket off the steering rack
sending his car flying through the infield and out of the race whilst Rivero moved by Hill & to assume
the lead. Rivero went on to win from Collins, Hill, Brodie Montague, Troy Frost, James Powell,
O’Meara, Corey McDonald & Ian Shortis.
Mark Pollard, Mills, Tommy McDonald with a flat tyre & Tom Barnard didn’t finish the first heat.
The second heat of the firs round seen Miller in a all the way win leading the complete eight laps
from Aaron Marshall. Matt Ridd moved into third on lap two having started in eighth and he stayed
in the same position to the end with Alex Cheney fourth then Mat Walker, Brett Williams, Charlie
Ball, Nathan Shortis, Shane Frost, Ben Kelly & Fleur Heiner rounding out the field.
From pole position Rivero locked in two wins from two when he led start to finish. Behind him
Montague, Ridd & Marshall swapped places before the race settled with Ridd in second, then
Marshall, Montague, Cheney, Corey McDonald, Troy Frost & Ian Shortis finishing behind Rivero.
In heat four another flat tyre to Tommy McDonald left him infield and a huge crash on lap four
involving Jacob Mills trying to pass Cheney and crashing into the turn two wall breaking the diff
housing, panard rod, bottom wishbone, the rack, the K frame, the seat, two of the cars wheels & a
axle as the car slammed the wall lifting off the ground.
Mills was sore and sorry after the big hit & not at all happy with whom he believed was the cause of
the incident.
The second heat of the round began with Powell in the lead from Walker on lap one then came
Miller who had advanced from ninth place at the start & Collins. On lap three Miller had lost traction
coming out of turn four and spun around causing a yellow sending him to the rear of the field.
On lap four Powell still led & it was Miller from last who blasted back into second ahead of Collins &
Walker. Walker was also on his game and he passed Miller on lap five to move into second and then
into the lead a lap later. Miller wasn’t done though and he came to the lead on lap seven and went
on to beat Hill, Walker, Powell, O’Meara, Kelly, Fleur Heiner, Troy Frost & Collins who crossed the
line last after pulling infield on lap five. Barnard & Ball did not finish.
A start to finish win for Marshall in the final round of heats catapulted him up to the front of
the field for the final still to come. He beat Cheney, O’Meara, Corey McDonald, Fleur Heiner &
Montague.
Miller won his third heat from three in the final heat when he took care of business winning ahead
of Walker, who chased from start to finish then Collins, Ridd, Martin Heiner, Kelly, Barnard, Troy
Frost & Shane Frost rounding out the field whilst Hill, Ball & Rivero all didn’t finish, the latter with
damage after slamming the concrete wall up at turn one & two breaking right hand front wheel to
lock up, turning car hard right into the concrete wall leaving damage such as bent lower arms, wheel
hub, right hand front wheel, steering rack bent & bent bar work.
Miller was being chased early in the final by Marshall with Mat Walker right up in the front bunch
also; eventually Marshall turned himself around and had to restart rear. Alex Cheney was a front
runner however when there was a spin by Walker that left Ricky O’Meara nowhere to go accept
straight on into him, there was a penalty dished out at the same time to Cheney to go rear of field
which he was deemed not forth coming in doing and penalised with a black flag disqualification.
Miller continued on for the win from Rhys Collins, Matt Ridd, Marshall who made a huge comeback
from last & Brodie Montague.CAR 6 - WINNER AT WAHGUNYAH BRENDAN MILLER
The next day at Mount Beauty Speedway Collins went one better to go on to win the final in front
of very strong Alexandra Speedway Club drivers Matt Ridd & Luke Fallon elevating himself into the
series lead on points.
Heat one started with Tommy McDonald & Collins colliding & Collins getting sent to the rear of the
field. Fallon assumed the lead from Bob Gentleman & Tommy McDonald on lap five Gentleman
was black flagged due to his window net falling down and the race was declared with one lap to go
with Fallon winning from Collins, Martin Heiner, James Powell, Tommy McDonald, Fleur Heiner &
Georgette Meunier.
Rob Hodgetts and Corey McDonald began at the front of the next heat with Mark Pollard & Marcus
Griffith alongside. McDonald led the first couple laps from Pollard with Ridd in third. Pollard took
the lead on lap three with Ridd into second and McDonald back to third place until lap five when
McDonald moved back ahead of Ridd.
Pollard held the lead to the end winning from McDonald, Ridd, Hodgetts, Tyson Rouse, Griffith,
Michael Edney, Glenn McVein & Charlie Ball.
The second round of heat races began with Martin Heiner leading Collins, Fallon, Steven Ladgrove
& Hodgetts on lap one. Collins passed Heiner on lap two with the rest of the field holding position
to the flag where Collins was the winner from Martin Heiner, Fallon, Ladgrove, Rouse, Gentleman,
Hodgetts & Meunier.
From pole position Pollard led Corey McDonald, Ridd, Tommy McDonald & Richard Broz on lap one
of the fourth heat of the day. Corey McDonald moved into the lead on lap two with Broz into second
on lap four with Ridd in third.
Broz took the lead on lap five from Ridd & Corey McDonald and they stayed that way across the
finish line with Pollard in fourth, Ball, Powell, Edney, McVein, Tommy McDonald & Griffiths.
From outside the front row in the first heat of round three, Collins led Broz, Martin Heiner, Ridd
& Edney. Ridd on lap three made a move and shifted into second place passing Broz & Heiner
however couldn’t catch Collins who won from Ridd, Heiner, Broz, Corey McDonald, Edney, Meunier
& Hodgetts.
Griffith led Gentleman, Powell, Fallon & McVein on lap one before Powell took the lead on lap two
from Fallon & Gentleman. Powell maintained the lead right to the finish with Fallon, Gentleman,
Griffith & McVein the order across the line.
Collins qualified pole position for the final with Fallon, Ridd, Martin Heiner, Corey McDonald, Powell,
Richard Broz, Pollard, Gentleman, Griffith, McVein, Rouse & Tommy McDonald. Collins led Ridd,
Fallon, Corey McDonald & Powell.
Heiner pulled out at lap one, Gentleman on lap three, whilst seventh Pollard exited the race on lap
six with suspension concerns and on lap eight Corey McDonald’s race was done.
