WOW, those were epic racing conditions this morning!
Victory Team storm to Emaar Pole Position win.
The Victory Team pair of Arif Al Zaffain and Nadir bin Hendi will start this afternoon’s Dubai GP in Pole Position after a sensational final lap that was four and a half seconds quicker than their nearest challengers.
The Dubai GP has been brought forward by a day because of high winds and rough sea conditions forecast for tomorrow afternoon. As a result, the main race – the second round of the UIM XCAT World Powerboating Series – will take place this afternoon at 3.30pm and the Dubai Duty Free Speed Cat Run will take place on Saturday at 2.30pm.

The XCATs will be back on the water on Friday morning for the all-important race for Emaar Pole Position at 10.30am while the main race – the Dubai GP – gets underway at 3.30pm. Meanwhile, due to the high winds and rough sea conditions forecast for Saturday, the race schedule has been switched. The race for Emaar Pole Position will take place on Friday, 15 April at 10.30am followed by the main race – the Dubai GP – at 3.30pm also on Friday.
The one-on-one, drag race-style Dubai Duty Free Speed Cat Run will now take place on Saturday, 16 April at 2.30pm.

Victory Team power to perfect 2016 XCAT start.
The defending Series champions, Arif Al Zaffain and Nadir bin Hendi, stormed to the front in typical fashion and led from start to finish to top the podium and the Series after round 1.
It was not a race without drama, however, as Team Australia (Brett Luhrmann and Paul Virik Nilsen) and Abu Dhabi Team 5 (Rashed Al Tayer and Faleh Al Mansoori) collided at the first turn and the Australians flipped their boat.

Pole position gets underway in a couple of minutes with new rules:
Similar to Formula 1, the race for Pole Position will take place over three qualifying rounds. The first of these will last 40 minutes with no limit on the number of laps that boats can complete in this time. The slowest five boats from this session will be allocated the bottom slots on the start gate for the Fujairah GP on Friday.
The remaining nine boats will then be allowed to progress to the second qualifying session after a break of 10 minutes.
This second session will last 10 minutes and once again there will be no lap limitation during this time. Propeller changes and other operations will not be permitted at this time. The slowest five boats in this session will be allocated in the middle race starting gates for Friday’s race.
The top four boats from this session will then progress to the third and final round of qualifying which will consist on one single timed lap (approximately six minutes including a warm-up). Again, no propeller changes or other operations will be allowed. After the single lap, the first four places for the top starting gate for the Fujairah GP will be determined.

New-look Swecat swing into XCAT action.
It’s been a busy last few months for the Swecat team who are hoping for big things when the 2016 UIM XCAT World Powerboating Series kicks off in Fujairah on 7-8 April.
Adding to the excitement of starting their second season in the Series is the prospect of putting the newly introduced, environmentally friendly four-stroke engines to the test for the first time.
“Obviously we have spent a lot of time during the offseason planning and project managing the re-rigging of our XCAT with the marvellous new Mercury Racing Verado 400 ROS,” explained Team CEO and Manager, Niklas Sjöö.

Team Abu Dhabi hope for repeat performance as XCAT season kicks off in Fujairah.
They provided one of the surprises of the season last year, and now Team Abu Dhabi are planning to return to that scene of triumph to pick up where they left off.
Rashed Al Tayer and Faleh Al Mansoori took top honours in the opening round of the UIM XCAT World Powerboating Series last year in their first official outing in the Series.
And with that experience under their belts the duo are confident they can do it again when the 2016 season gets underway at the same venue in Fujairah from April 7 to 8.
