DALE MORRISON AND LEE BEACH BECOME ENDURO KINGS AT ALEXANDRA
Pakenham and Ferntree Gully race
DALE MORRISON AND LEE BEACH BECOME ENDURO KINGS AT ALEXANDRA
Pakenham and Ferntree Gully racers Dale Morrison and Lee Beach combined as aa team to win this years 3 Hour Endurance motorsport race at Alexandra Speedway with their combination of good ole’ XF Ford Falcon’s out lasting a long list of fancied teams in a frenetic finish to the event where leaders dropped out of the way and the strategy of Morrison and Beach played it’s part in seeing them, in the front spot at the right time with a lap up their sleeve.
Morrison and Beach both come from a history of racing against each other and are also both members at Alexandra Speedway Club. They formed a combination just to go out and have some fun, however as the race went on they found themselves in the hunt and with fifteen minutes to go, they knew for sure they could secure a top five finish, fifteen minutes later though they were collecting $2500- for winning the whole show!
Early in the race Lennie Bonnici, Matt Nelson, Darren Forrest, Frank Ramsdale, Damien Miller and Warrick Taylor set a blistering pace at the front of the field. Bonnici would get some distance ahead and Nelson would catch him in traffic.
Several incidents causing caution and red-light stoppages affected strategies, drivers got caught out in the wrong place in the queue affecting their run and others just had to pit during long green light stretches which put them down in the running order laps behind.
Robert Garlick becoming a welcome yet unlikely race leader and he kept going on and on and on before eventually handing over to teammate Matt Callanan. Their run unravelled as did the runs of others who pitted just when you thought they might go on to win.
Darren Forrest was a certainty to win the race with four laps left however his machine let go on him and he had to dash back to the pit enclosure to put his team mate back in the race.
After 180 minutes, Lee Beach brought he and his team mate Morrison to the finish line almost a full lap ahead of second placed Bonnici and Shane O’Brien next was father and son combination Jeff and Jake Blencowe with brothers Damien and Brendan Miller in fourth and Forrest and Ben Moon rounding out the top five.
In celebration of the victory Morrison and Beach embraced a top of Beach’s race car, there was a kiss or two planted on the noggin of each other as the emotions poured out after a win that will be remembered for years to come.
Both drivers paid tribute to each other after the event with a similar message shared “As a race driver you hope to do well, however you look at the quality entry list and lot has to go right for you to win. I figured we could finish top ten, then as the race went on, we figured top five, top three and then here we are, we are winners. I thank Dale for his efforts and his mate ship, everybody for supporting us and helping us and Alexandra Speedway Club and its volunteers for providing us the opportunity to do what we all love.” Shared Beach.

Supporting the Enduro racing was Junior Sedan racing and Lilydale racer Kasey Garlick won her final ever Junior Sedan final when she won the Top Star Juniors final in front of Chloe Sheerman and Jayden Bryant who was competing in his first event at top star level. In New Star Junior Sedans Dylan Barrow won the final in front of Seth Sloane and Rye Orme.

WINTER WARM UP FOR DIRT TRACK FANS WITH ALEXANDRA 3 HOUR ENDURO
This Saturday night August the 10th will see Alexandra Speedway warm up dirt track fans with hot on track action in the annual $2000 to win 3 Hour Enduro for Speedway Sedans headlining the afternoon and early evening event that includes support from some hard charging Junior Sedan racers. Last season’s lap record breaking brothers Damien and Brendan Miller are back to defend in a field full of super combinations.
Drivers have been busy hustling to form their combinations and some of the very strong combinations are super strong based on previous racing experience. Leigh Bourke and Zac Swanson bring Modified Sedan experience, with Bourke who hails from Geelong the 15 lap record holder for Sports Sedans this past season at Alexandra. Jake Drewett from Mildura teams with Warrick Howie from Chiltern, Howie won a state championship at Alexandra a few seasons ago.
Shane O’Brien teams with his brother in law and reigning 100 Lap Derby King Lennie Bonnici in Sedan and Chassis car combination and runner up in the recent Derby Warrick Taylor teams with Peter Cox in an all Chassis car team. 2012 Enduro winners Matt Nelson and Darren Nelson team together again also in a Sedan/Chassis combo and local Alexandra hero Luke Fallon a winner in 2017 teams with Healesville gun Steve Kershaw, both very consistent top five finishing racers.
Andrew Jordan and Lenny Bates have won the event before too and they are back to have another crack with Bates a driver who can make a deep run into the race before needing to switch with his teammate as history shows us and another potential strong combination is Tony Moule and Frank Ramsdale, if Ramsdale can get over some wretched luck in these Enduro events, he has a car that has won Enduro’s previously and Moule built his car which won the Derby five seasons ago.
The list goes on and on of strong line-ups and three hours of action can dish up anything. Expect over 200 laps to be completed with 282 laps the record set last season by the Millers the benchmark.
In Junior SSA Sedan racing the young ladies lead the charge with Kasey Garlick, Chloe Sheerman and Bree Simpson amongst the favourites to win, Garlick finished second in June in the Victorian Short Circuit Championship event and is the number one choice to win. The boys including Jayden Bryant, Luke Cornfoot, Dylan Barrow and Linken Paterson are hoping to spoil Garlick’s final Junior Sedan race before she graduates to the adult scene. It should be a terrific race with the sports future stars shining.
Racing starts from 2pm.
$50 for a family of 2 adults and 3 children between the ages of 10 to 16, $20 per adult and $10 for children aged 10 to 16 and aged and invalid pensioners. Children under 10 years of age enter for free

SUPER ROD ASSOCIATION PRESENTATION RESULTS
WALSH THE CHAMP
The Super Rod Association held their annual presentation dinner last Saturday 13th of July at the Leopold Sportsman’s Club. It was Lancefield’s Shaun Walsh who scooped the pool on the night, including taking out the overall 2018/2019 Super Rod Aggregate.
Walsh took a clear win in the Super Rod Aggregate with 1521 points ahead of Neville Gange second on 1343 with Ewan McKenzie rounding out the top three on 769.
In other Awards on the night it was Jamie May who received the Rookie of the Year award, the Most Improved Driver went to Paul Singleton while Zac Farrer received the Association’s Encouragement Award. After having a major engine detonation early in the season the Unluckiest Driver Award went to Rod Smith. George Woolstencroft presented his President’s Award to Shantel Singleton for her work behind the scenes from helping with Draws, organising drivers and Lap Scoring.
Also presented on the night were the Western Cup Series, where it was Neville Gange who secured the win on 475 points ahead of Shaun Walsh 418 and Jason Kavanagh on 321. The Super Rod Association would like to thank their valued supporters of this series McDonald Livestock and General Carrier, PWS Fabrications, Donna’s Photos and The Grayland Family.
Easter saw the Super Rods partake in the first of hopefully many “Max Dumsney Motorsport Super Rod Easter Trail”, without the Support of Avalon Raceway, Borderline Speedway and Premier Speedway and the amazing sponsors Max Dumsney Motorsport, Highline Racewear, PWS Fabrications and Ratio Control Engineering it could not have been the roaring success that it was. Shaun Walsh took out the series ahead of Neville Gange, Ewan McKenzie, Michael Coad and Jamie May.
The Super Rod Association would like to thank everyone who made this night a great success, from our valued volunteers to our wonderful sponsors.
The Super Rod Association will hold their Annual General Meeting on Sunday 4th of August 1pm, at Thommo’s Hotel, Cobden.

Licencing
A new season is upon us. Just a reminder that this year is a compulsory medical year.
Everyone needs to provide a medical with their licence application.
We are a few days of Licencing going online as well. So hopefully by the end of the week you will be able to apply online. You will still be able to send your paperwork through like previously. All paperwork is available from your club.
Also with Licencing online this year, all licences will be sent back to clubs.
So all club secretarys please make sure you postal address’ are up to date to avoid delays.
