May 8, 2014 , Lakey Peak, Dompu Sumbawa ;
An increase in swell allowed round one of the Rip Curl GromSearch International final to run in pristine head high surf at Lakey Peak, Indonesia today. Both boys and girls divisions were completed with a progressive display of surfing to decide the quarter finals.
The standouts from the Expression Session yesterday were again the top performers in round one with Tim Brisso (FRA, Guadeloupe, French Caribbean) confirming his talent, receiving the highest score in the boys division and securing the top seed for tomorrow. He attacked the waves with raw power and displayed a variety of turns that demanded high scores “It was so fun out there, I can’t believe we get to surf these waves in a heat at pumping Lakey’s, I just can’t wait to do it all again in the 2 man quarter finals tomorrow”.
Pat Curren mixed his trademark flow with multiple maneuvers on the same wave to ensure high scores and secure the number two seed position. “This is one of the most perfect A-Frame waves on the planet, it was good to get off to a good start today and tomorrow is going to be special if this swell keeps getting bigger”.
Brissa Hennessy (USA/Hawaii) showed she is in spectacular form locking in number one seed position for the girl’s action tomorrow. “I’m so happy to be here, all the girls are ripping and I can’t wait to surf again with only one other surfer in the quarters”.
Isabelle Nichols (AUS) showed her class today with power and consistency pushing her into the number two seed position “I’m really happy to get a good heat under my belt and to be surfing such amazing waves against the best 16 and under girls from around the world”.
The surfer’s two highest scoring waves were combined from Round One to determine their total and decide the seeding position for the quarter finals.
