After waking up from the spectacular opening ceremony last night, Rip Curl GromSearch International final competitors were straight out to the famed Lakey Peak line-up for an official Expression Session on the first day of the event waiting period. The European and American competitors took the honors in both the boys and girls sessions with Tim Bisso (FRA) and Brissa Hennessy (USA/Hawaii) winning the Outstanding Performance award for best overall surfer.

They were backed up by their fellow National representatives when Tessa Thyssen (FRA) and Pat Curren (USA) won the best manoeuvre award for landing the single most difficult turns in their heat. The surfing display matched this high energy level with all competitors getting some solid time in the line-up.

Tim Bisso was the clear standout in the boys division catching 4 waves that scored over 8 points (out of ten) each “It was great to get things started with an Expression Session today, everyone got to surf Lakey Peak and we had a chance to check out the other competitors” said the French National who lives in Guadeloupe (French caribbean). “Things will get tougher from here so I was happy to get a good result before we surf Round 1 tomorrow.”

With the swell expected to rise over the next 3 days Brisa Hennessy was excited about the prospect of moving into the main event with good waves predicted “It was great to share the line-up with the girls and put the jersey’s on for the first time. The waves are meant to get bigger and I can’t wait to have just 2 girls in the line-up for the main rounds.”
