FOUR NEW AUSTRALIAN LONGBOARD CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT THE AUSTRALIAN SURF FESTIVAL.

PARK BEACH, COFFS HARBOUR (Saturday, August 6, 2016): The NRMA Holiday Parks Australian Longboard Titles saw four new Australian Longboard Champions crowned today after a handful of hotly contested finals in punchy four-foot waves.
 
Former two-time World Champion and three-time Australian Champion Harley Ingleby (Emerald Beach, NSW) looked unstoppable in the Open Men’s final with the local surfer posting a handful of excellent scores. When closest rival and 2006 World Champion Josh Constable (Peregian, Qld) copped an interference mid-way through the heat, Ingleby was handed the win with a heat total of 17.40 (out of a possible 20 points). Over the course of the event, Ingleby notched up five of the top ten scoring waves in the Open Men’s division.  
 
“Growing up, winning an Aussie Title is one of those things you dream of, so to have won it three times now feels amazing,” said Ingleby. “Josh is obviously super hard to beat and even when I had him close to being in a combination situation, I knew I would still need to stay smart until the very end as he was more than capable of upsetting me for the win.”
 
Molly Powell (Anglesea, Vic) put on a commanding performance to take out the Open Women’s final and bag Victoria its first title for the Australian Surf Festival. In a battle that saw all finalists’ post one impressive score, Powell gained the upper-hand thanks to holding onto two solid scores, which equated to a 12.00 heat total. As a result, Michalea Ross (Denmark, WA) was left chasing a 6.01 wave score that never came to fruition and gifted Powell the coveted trophy.
 
“I kinda wasn’t expecting this, I keep thinking I need to go back out there and surf again, I’m sure it will hit me later,” said Powell. “ The waves are really similar to home even though the paddle out was a bit more difficult. I’ve been second to Emma Webb for a few years at the Victorian Titles so this is my first opportunity to come up here and give it a go. I’m over the moon.”  
 
The Junior Men’s final came down to a nail-biting final minute exchange with the lead ping-ponging back-and-forth between the finalists, however with less than a minute remaining Frank Murphy (Yamba, NSW) was able to post a 6.35 wave score and usurp the win from Nicholas Brewer (Castaways Beach, Qld) who was holding down the lead prior to Murphy’s aforementioned wave. When the results were all locked in, there was only a 1.50 margin separating first, second and third place.
 
After claiming fourth position in the Open Women’s division, Tully White (Allambie Heights, NSW) was able to flip her final results on their head in the Junior Women's final, taking out the Australian Title. The Northern Beaches native posted a decent 13.00 heat total which allowed her to keep her fellow finalists at arms length.
