16/05/2016

QUEEN FERGUSON CROWNED, GARTNER & WALSH FUTURE SPEEDWAY KINGS

Redline Raceway on Mount Buninyong closed off its season on May 14th with

the Street Stock Queen of the Mount for the Ladies leading the program

along with the Junior Sedan state series & Ballarat lady Brooke Ferguson

impressively won all three heat races she competed in before winning the

final & securing her crown, the Junior Sedans were impressive all night

before Brad Gartner & Blake Walsh took wins in the A & B Grades.

The night of racing included crashes, huge passes, dead heat finishes and

rollovers yet with all that happening around them, Ferguson, West

Australian Donna Vanzetti, Megan Forrest, Karen Ferguson & Kelly

McDermott zipped in & out, around & in-between their fellow competitors to

claim the top five spots in the feature race .

Local competitor Priscilla Grech was a rollover, others were involved in

hard fought battles with paint & panels swapped such as Rachel Robinson &

Hannah Grima & Drama & incidents affected strong runners such as Fiona

Verhoeven & Rhiannon Burleigh. Heat wins earlier went to Brooke Ferguson,

McDermott, Forrest & Ferguson for her second & last round wins to Ferguson

& Vanzetti.

Ferguson thoroughly deserved to win after her dominance in qualifying & she

was both delighted & grateful in her winners’ speech. "Thank you to Redline

for making this event happen, to my parents & sponsors who help me so very

much, thank you to Jason & Khloe for the use of their race car so that mum

could race our car. Well done to all the girls, I enjoyed the competition

very much, it feels great to win the inaugural Street Stock Queen of the

Mount."

Ferguson won $600 worth of engine parts from Proflow Geelong, Vanzetti won

some relaxation time in Ballarat courtesy of the Ballarat Day Spa & Mercure

Ballarat, Forrest won time in Studio 516 for hair, nails and beauty

treatment whilst fourth and fifth picked up fuel vouchers from Hennessy

Transport.

Junior Sedan competitors were separated in A & B Grade fields with

Piston Cup trophies & sashes for the top three in each group. Brad

Gartner & Harry Ross won heats in round one. Angus Hollis & Ross dead

heated in round two whilst Todd Atkins took a win & in the third round

Atkins the Australian champion & Jackson Lunt were winners.

In the final things went belly up for Jackson Lunt who clipped the windrow

& ended up flipping over in a roll without the roof of the car touch the

dirt at all as the landed on its wheels.

South Australian Brad Gartner would go on to win from Ross, Angus Hollis,

Atkins & Donald Young.

The B Grade Junior Sedan field was large enough for there to be five heats

with each competitor entered in three of them. Blake Walsh won the first

with Brock Pengilly the next two. Jackson Van Ginnekin & Walsh then also

had a dead heat result for the win before Pengilly became the only driver

to win all three heats they competed in.

Before the final started, Pengilly was unable to compete with their car on

the race trailer & in the final Ballarat racer Darcy Wilson was a rollover

victim in turn four. Walsh & Van Ginnekin had a race long battle as did

Katelyn Worthy & Darcy Giblin for third & fourth positions. Walsh got the

better of Van Ginnekin for the win, Worthy then Giblin & Ryan were the top

five.

Open Unlimited Sedans racing finished with visiting driver Scott Ellis in

his 253ci 300hp powered chassis car defeat Sean Lister in his 366ci 800hp

chassis car with Nathan Fawns third, Des Birkin & Corey Knox completing the

top five.

Standard Saloon racing finished with a tough hard thought battle between

the top four cars & Greg Hutchins took the win for Hayden Clifford, Tim

Hutchinson, Dave Chivers from Ballarat & Samantha Dunn.

The Speedway racing season is now over until November, in the meantime

anybody keen to get involved with the club should find their social media

pages and talk to the President.
