5 STAR TRACK CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT REDLINE

Redline Raceways once annual track championship day has been run & won with five divisions

having track champions crowned on a fantastic night of racing on Saturday the 30th of April held by

the managing drivers club, champions included Mark Lincoln, Paul Domburg, local club member Sean

Lister, Ballarat’s Anthony Wilson & another local club member Mark Purdie.

The Amca division's event doubled up as a class state series event with six heat race events

determining the start positions for the feature race. Lincoln won the first heat before Sharon Tindal

was sensational when she secured a great win over Jamie Collins in her first heat race. Grant

Cullinger, Collins, Frank Thierry & Collins again finalised the winners.

In the final Collins & Lincoln proved they were the stand out drivers and raced away at the front with

Matt Mills. Just over half way Lincoln niggled Collins and it was enough to get into the lead & not

long later out of turn four Collins tagged Lincoln spinning him out of the lead & stewards deemed

this excessive contact & lined Lincoln back up in front & Collins at the rear of the field.

Lincoln went on to win from Matt Mills, Thierry, Billy Lodwick & Tindal.

The Street Stocks track championship meant double the pressure for Mark PurdIe who was also

going for three wins straight at the venue in Street Stock finals. Mick Dann & David Barrie took the

wins in the first of three rounds of heats with Shaun Henry, Mark Purdie twice & Barrie again taking

wins to set up a Purdie & Barrie front row with Scott Purdie & Cade Cox on the second row.

Throughout the length of the final, Mark Purdie held the lead as he & Barrie zig zagged through back

markers trying to get that championship. On the very last lap, at the top end of the track Barrie

made one last attempt to pass coming across the finish line just fifty centimetres short of a win

whilst Purdie won his first track championship, his third feature in a row & possibly over the course

of the season done enough to be the overall Street Stock club champion. Mark’s brother Scott

finished in third spot with Bhoe Patterson & Cade Cox rounding out the top five.

Cathal McCaughey was sensational in the Standard Saloon final & if it wasn't for a flat tyre on the

very Last lap he would be the track champion. It wasn't to be as his mate Paul Domburg took the win

over McCaughey with Matt Domburg in third in a Portland Speedway Club trifecta, with Ballarat

members Patrick Walsh & Shell Sinclair rounding out the top five.

Ballarat local Anthony Wilson once again was unable to be defeated in the Thunder Sedan final as he

stormed to a win ahead of Steve Hodder, Greg Raggatt, Wally Hucker & John Agosta. For some time

Raggatt sat in second as he stuck to directions from super coach Graham Forte, Hodder eventually

got the better of the duel to sneak through to second.

Finally the Unlimited Open Sedan division finished with the Victoria # 2 driver Sean Lister dominating

the night, smashing the field on his way to victory ahead of Nathan Fawns, Des Birkin, Matt

Chiminello & Tim Hutchinson.

The action was full on with Daniel Angus rolling on his kid in the heats & others coming to grief with

the concrete during the night as they tangled up with other drivers such as Codey Millican who was

taken to hospital for scans which have since cleared him of any broken bones, Stephen Petrie, Corey

& Kayla Knox.

Racing returns on May the 14th of the final event of the season with the first ever Queen of the

Mount for Ladies Street Stocks, a state series round in the Junior Sedans, Vintage Speedway cars,

Standard Saloons, Unlimited Open Sedans & Thunder Sedans on the program along with some fun

races for crew & friends.
