AT AVALON STORER WINS A SECOND ALFIES EXCAVATIONS ROUND FOR SEASON

Portland racer Daniel Storer became the first driver for the season to win two rounds in the ‘Alfies 

Excavations & Plant Hire’ Super Series for Wingless Sprints when he was too good for David Cook & 

Peter Logue this past Saturday night February the 13th at Avalon Raceway, as a result strengthening 

his lead at the head of the points table. 

For the only time in the season for Wingless the night began with a time trial session & over three 

groups with a fast time of 15.938 from David Cook in session three putting him at the top of the 

times sheet from Peter Logue who ran a 15.956 in the second session. Interestingly the eventual 

event winner was a huge .8 of a second behind the Cook time.

With points for the time trails banked drivers got into two heat races each.

Luke Storer and his brother Daniel began on the front row of heat one & Daniel got the lead right 

from lap one going on to defeat Luke, Travis Millar, Mark Balcombe & Scott Drew.

Following on from a brother & brother top two was a father and son top two when Peter Logue 

defeat son Wayne in the second heat with Darcy McGlade, Jason Langdon & Victorian champion 

James Wren completing the top five when Logue Snr lead from start to finish.

Our top time trialist Cook then came out ahead of Andy Hibbert, Sam Wren, Rhys Baxter & David 

Alford in the third heat when he led start to finish.

The first green to chequer heat race was run in the fourth with Glenn Watts taking a win ahead of 

Millar, Daniel Storer, Drew & Marcus Green in a finish with only .482 of a second separating the lead 

two cars. Luke Cole had led the first eight laps before trailing in towards the back of the field

Heat five also went the distance without stoppage and Mark Balcombe picked up the big qualifying 

points defeating Layton Orchard, Ebony Hobson, Baxter & Leigh Balcombe with a margin of just over 

a second back to second place. 

In the final heat race a fastest ten lap time of the night was set by James Wren in his win over 

Michael Skene, Jay Nicolaisen, Alford & Sam Wren. The time of 2 minutes 32.758 seconds with a 

three second gap back to second after Wren crossed the finish line. Wren had started fifth before 

taking the lead on lap two.

A shortened last chance qualifier moved a few drivers into the main race including Jason Langdon, 

Skene, Jay Nicolaisen & Leigh Balcombe.

As the green let the field go for the twenty lap feature event Daniel Storer got the jump on Cook 

with Peter Logue, Millar, Mark Balcombe, Sam Wren, James Wren & Wayne Logue in chase four laps 

later the leaders remained the same whilst James Wren moved from seventh to fourth. 

For the next fourteen laps everything moved along in the same order until on lap nineteen where 

Millar pulled out with mechanical issues and then again on lap twenty Wren rode a wheel and 

flipped over causing a red light stoppage.  

Official results with Daniel Storer crossing the line in first were sorted out as being Cook in second 

then Peter Logue, Mark Balcombe, Swan Wren, Wayne Logue, Baxter & Hibbert.

Afterwards Storer was pleased to increase his lead in the series. “With all the top drivers supporting 

the series through to the end it was a great effort by my team. We have two cars on the go each 

round & both cars run strong. Thank you to the series supporters from Alfies and to all the 

volunteers who make sure we have a show each week to go to.”
