South Sydney Rabbitohs stay ahead of the game with SAP Business One

Sydney – 11 August 2015. The South Sydney Rabbitohs Rugby League team has implemented SAP Business One from Sapphire Systems to streamline its efficiency and cost effectiveness.

After the success of recent years, the Rabbitohs’ finance department had more than doubled in terms of both personnel, data processing and financial reporting requirements. This growth meant the Club’s existing accounting software was being stretched beyond its capacity.

Kay Allen, Finance Manager at the Rabbitohs, said the Club made the decision to invest in this growing area of the business by upgrading its accounting software to a system that could not only manage current operations but future requirements for at least the next ten years.

“We wanted to be at the cutting edge of technology, and ensure we were leading by example alongside other NRL Clubs. In order to gain a competitive edge we needed to increase innovation and reduce the burden of repetitive and mundane administrative tasks. The requirement for electronic filing of source documents was also an essential element of this system upgrade process.

“So our main objectives were to implement a more robust solution to maximise employee resources, improve the quality of data, reduce any manual processes and move towards a paperless finance department,” Kay said.

The finance team found SAP Business One to be the optimal solution. “We felt SAP Business One would most effectively maximise our return on investment and improve overall team productivity. We expect finance staff to have more time for value-added projects and reporting requirements.

“When it came to implementation and support, we selected Sapphire Systems because the Club was seeking the best technical and professional services to accompany the latest software solution. We were also impressed with the unlimited support desk services and the fact we would have our own dedicated account manager,” Kay said.

The Club went live with SAP Business One on the 3rd of July 2015 and has already seen improvements and efficiencies in a number of areas, including across its accounts payable and receivable functions.

“We are extremely impressed with Sapphire and the system implementation process. The team in Australia ensured the process was streamlined for the Club and that the whole project came in under budget. The staff and the phone support teams have been professional and helpful throughout the entire process and this service has continued since the system went live,” Kay said.

Paul Rowan, Senior Vice-President of Sapphire Asia Pacific, said it had been a pleasure assisting the Club with its requirements. “SAP Business One is a popular solution in the sport sector and it is fantastic to see the Rabbitohs are already realising the value of the solution just four weeks after implementation. We are confident the software will grow with the Club to help ensure they’re always ahead in the back office as well as on the playing field.”
